I have noticed I am receiving graphic smiles on my end, but when I send them, they are not graphical and simply show the text symbols. Even when I use the smiley button through the keyboard to send them. I notice this in SMS and WhatsApp IM.

Also specifically in WhatsApp, I get all kinds of emoticons from my buddy on iOS, but I cannot send them. I guess he downloaded some addon pack for them. I just find it strange I see them but I cannot send them.

Is this just how it is, or is their a setting I missed to enable graphical smiles? Specifically in SMS. I understand WhatsApp is its own issue, more than likely.

Thats strange that you don't see smilies in the built-in Messaging application, my phone certainly shows them.

As for WhatsApp, its not a particularly good application and WhatsApp are much more interested in pushing their application on iOS rather than Windows Phone. I thinki you might be waiting a while if you want the WhatsApp application on WP7 to catch up to the iOS version.

No, they just have it setup so when you type them in you use txt and then they are transformed to icons. It is harder to put little pictures in the txt box. But they should turn into smile icons in your history.

Well you are saying that ongoing smileys are not there or it's not giving you to see them? Maybe the combination of smiley you are typing is not on WP7 :)
