Randomly not getting notifcations for SMS texts and emails

I don't even get the count icon on the main page. I actually have to go into my texts to see if I have any new ones. A restart fixes this but then it starts back up within a few hours.

Any ideas on the problem? Is this a known issue? I'm new to the 8x.

This happens to me as well, and only started this weekend. I am on Verizon and have the 8x. Have you upadated or installed any apps recently?
