Replacement back plates

Got the orange flip case genuine from eBay. 24$ on a bid. Looks amazing and the wireless charging works great on my Rogers variant.

If anyone is interested I finally got around to swapping the coil from my green AT&T plate to the white replacement one I ordered. You can see the two coils are noticeably different (AT&T coil on the left):

Anyway - I just used a hairdryer and a few random tools (pliers, credit card, guitar pick, small screw driver) to melt the adhesive and slowly/carefully peel off the coil. Lined it up on the replacement plate, heated it again, pressed into place and applied pressure with some woodworking clamps. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so and tested it - works fine.

If anyone else does this, practice removing the coil on your replacement plate first since it's not compatible anyway - the adhesive part is kind of a foil-type material and will flake away pretty easily if you don't go slow and heat up the glue regularly. Not sure how critical a role it plays in functionality, but I'm sure there's reason it's made of the material it is, so try to minimize damage.

Isn't the AT&T version compatible with both PMA & Qi?

Isn't the AT&T version compatible with both PMA & Qi?

As far as I know, yeah... I only have Qi chargers, though, so I haven't personally tested both. Not sure why the non-ATT plates/phones have a different coil, but there's definitely a compatibility issue with the plates and the ATT version of the 830.

For what I understood, all the variants support both.

From what I remember reading of the FCC submissions, only the AT&T version supports both. And the AT&T version definitely has different charging coils from the 984/985, and the 984/985 backplate coils do not work well with the 983.

I got my orange back plate from the order I placed through the eBay seller in Spain.
The orange looks more like an obnoxious fluorescent orange than I have seen in pics.
It is like what you would see on safety equipment.
Are they all like that?

Here's another way to change the back color officially, however it comes with a flip front. This case actually clips on as a back cover, maybe it'd be easy to trim off.

Buy Wireless Charging Flip Shell for Lumia 830 - Microsoft Store

You guys have me worried now because I ordered an orange case from overseas and I don't know which I went with, have to check my order.
yeah, I actually ordered that. It really looks nice but for me it was way too impractical. The flip cover was too floppy and sliding quite a bit. The whole thing of flipping it open before you can do anything with the phone was annoying. I returned it after 2 days and I'm not looking back.

Well got my orange one today and despite the fact that it looks identical in every way the coil must be the issue (haven't looked at it yet). It works on my dt900 plate fine, but wont work in the cr200 car charger. I'm guessing it may be related to coil placement. I bought mine from a US eBay merchant, seller was nyciti2 and looks like they are out of stock now.

I have seen wireless charging flip cover shells on eBay but I wonder if anyone has spotted regular back plates (stock variant, not the flip shell) anywhere?

I'd love to be able to change colour, and even more so if there would be some custom colours available.

I found one on eBay (white) and something was wrong with it. Charging was sporadic, and my phone even bricked when charging it.

I would be careful and only buy from a reputable source.

As mentioned above, i have a white and black (both new) original back plate for trade for another color. Let me know if anyone is interested

So, I finally made my original flip cover look better.
cool, it really looks nice. I purchased the orange one at MS store. However, after using it for a day I decided it's not what I want. the backplate is a little thicker than the original one and charging gave me issues on third party chargers. Also the screen cover was moving around sideways too much for my taste and I just couldn't get used to open it every time I wanted to use the phone. Back it went....

edit: never mind. I already elaborated on this a couple posts above ;)

I like that the phone is not so thin. And with Nokia sticker on the back, there's no reason for me to use regular cover for some time. :D

Here's my solution to the international back plates not working correctly w/ the DT-910:

Carved up piece of packing material hollowed out w/ a pocket knife. 5-minute @ job fix! This will place the 830 @ the correct angle to maintain a wireless charging connection.
