I share your frustration at this new direction and sudden departure from the modern UI that first brought me to Windows Phone. I think it is a mis-step by the OneDrive team, I hope it's not part of an overall app strategy by Microsoft and we must let them know what we think. I created a similar uservoice suggestion but I'm happy to add votes to yours.

I think the new design is better. It needs some polish, and things need to be spaced out a little better, but overall a great update and a step in the right direction

It still has a lot of usability and looks pretty nice. I don't think this is Microsoft abandoning the UI.

I'm with the OP, I'm not liking the departure from the design that likewise brought me to WP. This hamburger thing is wildly annoying to me too. Factually speaking, if MS is set on going this route with everything, I doubt it's going to go away and it's either stick with MS or go elsewhere. I personally have small faith in the uservoice thing, but nonetheless, I'll drop my votes in with you.

Microsoft's management team is clearly one of the world's worst. They create amazing products, like Metro UI, and then make stupid decisions that completely ruin the user experience. Zune Music is a clear example, the amazing predecessor to the disastrous Xbox Music.

Once again this shows how Microsoft is. Windows Phone is a great OS but it looks like they don't even care on improving it. Just tell me how many things is now better since WP7 - it would be a dire list compared to fast-developing Android/iOS. Even in 2014 WP lacks certain features that feature phones had years ago. Hell, Nokia themselves cared more about Windows Phone features than Microsoft itself. Absolutely shameful! The days of Bill Gates was clearly the best.

I had great hopes for WP this year after the success in 2013, but it has proved to be horrible.

When I moved to Windows Phone, I phone it was a little disconcerting that apps I had used on Android and Windows 7 desktop suddenly looked very different. But then I realised there was consistent design language across apps which makes WP much easier to learn.

If MS breaks its own rules (I think MS has a history of doing this) then WP becomes a lesser experience.

Please, MS, maintain the consistency.

All they should do is take the current "panorama" layout (like in the People Hub), and then add a hamburger icon on the first page that you come to when you open the hub. Put it in the top left so that slides open an overlay from that corner, with shortcuts to each section of the panorama. Both camps are happy. MS implemented the hamburger menu because it's more easily recognized by people switching from other OSs, but (IMO) the panorama layout is much better for navigating around on today's bigger screen devices
