Running into 80188308 installing GDR1 or Pre Update

So I got it to work yesterday...
I've a Nokia 920 (Rogers) in Canada...unlocked on Bell

I had to use the Nokia tool to flash back to "black" (WP8) and go through all the updates.
Basically:
Backup -> Nokia Tool -> Developer Preview install app-> Update phone a bunch of times....bingo!

What do you lose if you go back to black? Did you have a restore point set, or does it give you the option to simply go back to wp8?

I'd rather keep all my data so I'm waiting for MS to make their new update, but it sounds like they're struggling to fix the problem.

Getting really antsy for this update but dont want to lose all my apps that are no longer in the store by doing a recovery...

It's been more than a month since MS promised a fix so that Dev preview users could get CYAN and it's been 3 weeks since the 80188308 error popped up.

Sucks that Dev preview users are behind normal users (at least as far as cyan firmware).

Is MS still working on a fix or have we been abandoned? Really do not want to "reinstall the OS" -- seems like this is Windows 95 all over again.

I'm kind of stuck in limbo now. Nokia software recovery refuses to flash my phone back to Windows Phone 8.0. Gets to the install screen and fails every time. Same shtick on multiple PCs.
Tried a hard reset...the x308 error still remains. This one must be a doozy for Microsoft to figure out.

I am tired of waiting. Just flashed mine l820 with Cyan. I have lost saves in a few games.

I wish people would stop saying to just give up and use the Nokia software recovery tool; that isn't a viable option for devices like the ATIV S.

I asked by "contact us" if anyone could reach out for Microsoft and get some information in regards of that error.

One thing I recognized. I have snooze timer with my alarms.. I am sure I didn't have it with WP8.1 DP. But the update didn't run through correctly on my phone. My OS is 8.10.12397.895

Hi,

I too have the same problem with updating. But over days, I see that the number of updates that got accumulated to be installed on my phone have increased. There was only one with which this error was present. But now there are three:

8.10.14147.180
8.10.12400.899
8.10.14157.200

Just wondering if the latest one does actually fix this. But how do I remove the previous updates from the list of updates to be installed?

Thanks,
Midhun.

They will be installed one after another. you cant remove them and the x.200 does not fix the problem. don't bother tryint to install

I gave in and did the recovery tool route. Best to do it when your about to sleep, just let it recover from the back up.

And check all your apps if they have a back up feature.i missed setting my list app to back up and all the book titles I planned to read are now gone... And of course game progress is back to zero. Tentacles saved my progress and even the coins, but my Xbox achievements are all wiped out

Well looks like my next would be iPhone. I don't have the patience to deal with this windows phone **** anymore. I want it to just work, almost a month with this 80188308 thing and no fix.

Well enjoy your iPhone. Better don't update to the iOS Beta programm though. Before you will end up on Android

The fix went live this morning, according to an announcement at:

0x80188308 error on 8.1 DP Update 1 install - Microsoft Community

Here's the post by Mike Mongeau:

Everyone, the update is now live as of 10am PST this morning. You can read more details about this on the Windows Phone Blog. One of the important fixes addresses an issue some of you were seeing during the update process – the 80188308 error – which resulted from running out of storage space in the system partition during update. We expect this fix to solve the update issue for most of you folks.

If you have a Nokia Lumia device and are still running into this error with the latest update, you can use the Nokia Software Recovery tool to reset your device.

Or, if you are on a phone with lower storage capacity you may also see an out of storage error that is different than the one above. Please follow the Make room on my phone to update it article.
