Hi,
for some reason after the latest Windows updates (none fast ring) the virtual keyboard doesn't auto show when using chrome, however continues to work using Edge.

Any ideas?

I've been going crazy with this problem today. I just reset my Surface 3 and re-installed Chrome. I started using Chrome without a keyboard attached and the virtual keyboard wasn't showing up. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, since before I reset my Surface, it was working perfectly.

I thought this was related to resetting my device and forgetting how to enable this auto-popup of the keyboard in Chrome. Since you are seeing the same problem, I guess it must be related to the update.

Sorry I don't have a solution, but at least I am not going crazy and it is nothing I did wrong.

Hopefully, there will be a fix. In the meantime, I think there is a Chrome extension that displays a touch screen. I may try that.

Ive just reset the Surface and reinstalled chrome to try and fix the issue - the virtual keyboard still wont show when using Chrome. Note sure if its a Windows 10 or Chrome Issue :(

I really hope this gets fixed. Chrome is unusable in tablet mode without the popup virtual keyboard. I would love to use Edge, but I need it to support extensions before I can commit to using it. I can't live without LastPass and adBlock.

Well, as of this morning my wife is having the same issue with chrome.
No automatic virtual keyboard.

Is there a way to undo the last update? (last night).

I found the solution. Add this parameter to the end of the command that opens chrome in your shortcut (outside of the quotes):

--disable-usb-keyboard-detect

Restart chrome, and now the virtual keyboard should pop up when you touch text entry locations.

Thanks,
Any walkthrough to do such a task? Not something I've done before.
Thanks,
Joe

Holy crap that worked!!

instructions: Right click on the icon -> properties -> add this to your "Start in:" box after "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application" --disable-usb-keyboard-detect

I use Opera and I'm having this exact same problem. Without the typecover connected, my S3 auto shows the on screen keyboard perfectly everywhere except Opera. On Opera's forum someone said they think Opera knows about this problem and is working on a fix (just word of mouth though as far as I know) but is there any fix for Opera similar to the one listed a few post above mine for Chrome?
