Samsung is definitely out of my list...Here's why..

What I don't understand is why this forum was very quiet about samsung before Apple sue the company which favoured Microsoft? People used to say that WP needs nice high devices like Sammy's ones, but now they are cheap and worthless? come on...

Nokia is more like a Ford Taurus. Gigantic, heavy, and full of Microsoft guts (Sync.)

Who is calling Samsung devices "cheap and worthless?"

For the record, I just think the ATIV S is uninspired.
I really don't know here what we see is if a you make coloured devices then you copy Nokia, if you do something different then it's not well designed... It's simply Nokia fanboyism, I am considering both as they offer two different yet nice devices and I wait until I actually hold them in my hands to compare...

Don't say something against Nokia, they use polycarbonate which is plastic-like gold with powdered diamond blended in it. So premium.

It's not an insult. I drive a newer Ford Taurus. They rule, but they are also massive and heavy and that's OK.

I beg to differ. Not once have I said Sammy is cheap BUT LOOK at Nokia...now that is fanboism. Comparison.

I'm just saying, it LOOKS cheap and flimsy...nowhere close to a premium product...fine I get polycarbonate isn't all that expensive as compared to Sammy's plastic...but hey..it looks good..

Man so many baiting comments in this thread.

I'm with Winning Guy, you make a phone that thin and with those kinds of materials and you sacrifice something.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me the reputation of sturdiness in samsung phones. Every video I've seen show the S3 working great when it falls flat on its back, but then when they do a drop test on its side...

I mean I get sometimes a dropped phone can just fall and hit at an odd angle, but how can anyone say that that's what happened for all of the videos i've seen so far? Each time a drop from the side fractures the display.

Someone explain to me the sturdiness please. From scratches?

These OEM arguments are getting tiring...

Why can't everyone just be happy that we're getting a good selection of devices that cater to various needs and preferences such as size, screen size, camera quality, colour, etc. Pick whatever one suits you best.

While I agree with being happy with the selection, I say let them continue. I'm enjoying the read!

I'm pretty sure we are all happy about the selection of new devices. Competition between the OEM's can only benefit us all.

I think brmiller is stuck in 1976. Volvo's have been stylish for a while and they handle great too.

Nah. They've filed off the edges, but they're still an acquired taste.

HTC as a Maserati is hilarious. Hyundai is more like it. Good, but highly derivative of more original designs and not as well made.

I dunno. My luck with HTC has been much better than with Nokia.

Samsung is like Toyota. Utterly uninspiring in the design department, plasticky and dull, but reliable and you know what you're getting.

Not really. Samsung is typically first to market with new technologies and packs a lot more power into their stuff than the others. Galaxy S III is far from bland and dull, IMO.

Nokia is well compared to European car brands. Statistically not always quite as reliable as the Asian brands, but close enough and for many they make up for it with original designs and material quality that exceeds the imitators.

And like European car brands, they tend to sell poorly outside of their home markets. ;)

Wow..... Professor X, when you fired up this forum, Didjya think it would turn into THIS as you hit the "Submit new thread" button???

I actually am okay with the tone in MOST of the post here. So long as we are arguing specifics about the devices and not taking slap shots at each other, why not?? Until the devices are launched in a month or so, what else do we have to talk about?

I truly get it from the "not buying it" crowd. Samsung is in such a position of strength and are so sold on Windows tablets that a half effort on WP seems wrong. Their entire Focus line from the original to #2 with LTE had one commercial, for the Focus Flash, and that was done with MS money.

Again, the light feeling phone arguments are totally understandable. I found the heaviest cases I could for my Focus S just for that reason. It is why the 920 and the 820 actually appeal to me... They will hopefully feel like real devices.

XENOPHOS.. I got it. It is flimsy, and there is reason to doubt some drop tests. Got it. But I respect that you tip the cap to their quality of performance.

IF Samsung promotes the ATIV, IF Samsung brings some of the neat extras to it from the GS3, IF Samsung brings it to every carrier willing to take it they could be HUGE in getting WP over the hump and into double digit sales worldwide. If not, I will lead everyone to a Samsung store and we will TP it in broad daylight, legal consequences be darned. I am sure the moderators here at WP Central will spring for our bail.

OM F'ing G dude! U just redefined "******"! I had no idea hating one brand made u a ****** of another brand...especially considering the fact that as much as I love HTC, I'm considering a NOKIA Lumia920...So..atta boy!
On a serious note, next time keep personal attacks out of your replies. Or I won't be as polite as this...
And Samsung products are well designed? Lol! Yeah sure...then may be Superman, unicorns and Santa too is real.
All their designs look identical man..look at socialcarpet's post one page back.

The only part i agree is about HTC. I too had one myself & the volume rocker and the power button wore off in a few months.

Like I wrote in bold which obviously went unnoticed, they L O O K & F E E L cheap...(or maybe they are.)

Yes they are well designed. I can try squeezing it as hard as I can, punch them, toss them on the table(not that I can recommend that) and still no creaks or give. The internals are ridiculously compact. That is a sign of great build quality, not weight.

Those drop tests are not real world situations. Even so, go watch the GS2 drop tests, that thing is mental, probably because the screen isn't curved.

What's "real world"? If we're talking about tossing it lightly onto a table or a 1-2 foot drop I would think just about any phone made today can withstand that.

If you're telling me no phone can withstand a higher drop / manufacturers haven't put that much thought to drops of that nature / the odd angle drop then I can totally believe that.

These tests to me though come off more as a demonstration of the worst case scenario. Maybe they're less frequent in nature but they just may happen and it's good for anyone to know how much damage to expect and how much they need to protect their phones.

Looking at the only few unscientific SGS2 drop tests videos compared with what I have seen of the SGS3's; all I can say is it looks like Samsung's QA/QC is going down.

I was not referring directly to you, but after reading the posts on this thread I at times felt like people were influenced by what Nokia says and the trash talk they do. I believe Samsung will sell more ATIV s than Nokia will sell Lumias, simply because the ATIV s is a GS3 but way sexier which will attract a lot of people, when Nokia might have some nice tech to offer, it's still an underdog. BUT I know that stat wise, the Nokia is superior when it comes to the camera and the sensitivity of the touch screen, which is nice and can be interesting for a lot of us including me.

I really can't judge, all the decision making is done when you hold the phones and compare them, because on paper a phone may be better than an other, but the FEEL in you hand and in your pocket can me a deal breaker.

I bet most of you complaining drive Toyotas trolol.

So what if it bends, if it snaps, then you have issues...still like the look of the 920 more though.

hahahaha..you always crack me up snowmutt. In fact, I look forward to you posting a reply sometimes to lighten the mood, with of course, sparing us a couple of wise words.

And No i had never thought it would churn so many pages of debate. I just wanted to make a point.

In retrospect, I want to say, I am not a hater. Think about it, why would I not buy Samsung? I would, but of only they do away with flimsy materials. I am confused between HTC and Nokia so far, heck I would love to be even more confused if Samsung pulls up its socks and enters the game the way I want them to. Who doesn't like choices?

So, ya... that's that. But I love the way everyone here have put their points forward without drawing swords or calling names. (One of the reasons why the thread is still not closed :P)
