Samsung is definitely out of my list...Here's why..

I have to say that while Samsung does get smartphones for now, if they keep up with the design language as per usual, and they will lose it sooner or later when someone else comes along that can provide a better design. Apple's in danger of doing that.

Still, ATIV is still a contender IF Samsung can get enough accessory support like they did for the S3 and Note. But its a whole chicken and egg thing.

I'm not 100% sure what we are arguing over, or if we are arguing at all. I think we agree for the most part, differing only in how we set the variables:
Nokia doesn't have the time that Samsung had, though. Samsung was a strong and growing player in the market back in 2010 when the first Galaxy S phones shipped (on every carrier) and sold well (on every carrier).

It took two years of solid success to win the crown.
Well, how much time do they have in your view, and to what end?

I don't think Nokia must become the worlds #1 manufacturer of smartphones within two years. All they need to do is become profitable again. That isn't even that far off anymore... If they achieve that by 2014, which I think they can, they will be fine.
The Lumia launch in the US was a disaster. If they get traction with WP8, they'll need to emulate Samsung and sell high-end on every carrier, while executing flawlessly for two years while continuing to endure their financial crisis. That's a tall order.
Yes, we all know Nokia has a tough road ahead. I agree. I also agree that Nokia's WP8 launch in the U.S. isn't exactly great, and that the world would be a better place if Nokia could replicate Apple's and Samsung's distribution tactics. I know Nokia would be the first to do so if they could. As it currently stands, they can not.

It's simple

If the 920 is superior to the ativ I give Sammy 6 months to come out with a device. The electronics scene is a fickle beast. There are the hunters and the hunted. At this point Samsung is the hunted. I'm positive that Samsung has many unique designs and tech ready for when needed. When your at the top of the game why push it. Nokia was there once but got caught sitting on their hands. Samsung won't make that mistake.

What I'm getting at is I find it almost impossible for Nokia to get back on top.

If u ask me, Sammy and iPhone have the most dumbest customer base. Ever..
One tells the other, "Hey wanna buy an phone..."
"Yeah yeah..."
"Get the iPhone..."
"OK.."*swipes card & pays a bomb*

Same with Sammy. While I do agree about Apple's quality... Sammy is a joke (hey wasn't that the reasin I made this thread...he he he)

I'm sorry but what's your basis for that? Do you know how many people buy Iphones and Galaxy phones? Are you telling that all of them are simply dumb people that buy anything with the word Samsung and Apple in there? Their reputation is earned.

Guess what, as of right now The Iphone 5 and Galaxy S3 are miles and miles above the current Windows Phone offerings. The hardware and software we have right now is comparable to Gingerbread Android phones but with even less features.

I wish it wasn't like that but is the true, I wouldn't be making phone of people that chose superior devices just because I like the inferior one. And less face it Windows Phone 7.5 is terrible and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless if the cheapest of cheap devices.

Thankfully I have high hopes for Windows Phone 8 and that's the only reason I haven't make the switch.

Whats your basis for saying WP7.5 is terrible? I wouldn't say it's terrible, it consistently gets good reviews from customers on carriers and sites like amazon

Samsung is my go-to OEM for Android tablets and smartphones, though ASUS makes great Android tabs as well. Even though the Galaxy Note 10.1 is something of a bust, Samsung is the only OEM pushing innovation in Android smartphones: Both the Galaxy Note 1 and the upcoming II look like fantastic products.

The Galaxy S3 of course speaks for itself. Even a year ago, no one would have believed that a 4.8 inch phone would have become one of the smartphone leaders worldwide and be on track to sell 30 million in roughly 6 months. Samsung phones are simultaneously thin and light, but have huge batteries and high-quality screens.

For those interested in modding/rooting their phones, Samsung along with Sony are one of the few OEMs that even bother to leave bootloaders unlocked and upload the source code so developers can quickly release custom ROMs that are stable and battery-efficient.

The only criticism I have of them is that the design of the latest Galaxy phones is pretty bad, though it's clear that it was a reaction to the Apple lawsuit, and hopefully next year they'll make it look less ugly. They're coming out with the next Nexus tablet I believe so we'll see what they have in store design-wise pretty soon. But all things considered, they're leading the pack for a reason.

In my opinion, they may well sweep WP8 sales because they're smart enough to include removable batteries and microSD cards as default options, and not force customers to trade them off in terms of lower-spec models like what HTC and Nokia are doing. That and the fact that they're launching on all carriers.

You think WP7 is "terrible"? Why? Because it doesn't have the apps that iOS has, or it doesn't have the eleven billionty custom roms Android has?

I have a feeling in a couple of months you'll loudly announce your departure to Android because you've discovered WP8 is just as "terrible" as 7 was. I've got no problems with that - if something doesn't make you happy, you need to find something that does.

My original ideal choices for a WP8 phone were - 920, 8X then Ativ S. Lately I've been staring at pictures of the Ativ S and the design is starting to grow on me. Of course I'll have to handle all of them before making a choice.

Me too...I thought Lumia920 is it...but lately I've been staring at pics of 8X. ..heheheh

Its the little omissions and bad decisions that makes using WP7 annoying.
The keyboard is awful, I hate how it doesn't cover the whole screen in landscape and is really annoying for people that speaks two languages like me because of the togggling.

No landscape support on the main screen.

No Bluetooth transferring or turn by turn navigation (I don't have a lumia)

I have to use a third party app just to turn the music out.

abysmal fake multistaking, apps always restart and it can easily be filled by just the same text conversation.

Contrary to what people say on the boards, Windows Phone does lag, especially on the browser( that doesn't even have a forward button nor flash support) .

Apps are expensive for no reason and lack features, they are also laggy as he.ll if they are third party.

Thats just on the top of my head, there more.

I think they have only about 12 months to return to sustained profitability.

They need to get into entrenched status in the US carrier market. That means sustained presence and sustained profitability.

No argument there. The keyboard is pretty brutal.

No landscape support on the main screen.
No big deal. I'd prefer a orientation lock.

No Bluetooth transferring or turn by turn navigation (I don't have a lumia)
I do. It's great and I believe Nokia Drive will be offered on all WP8 devices

I have to use a third party app just to turn the music out.
Agreed. Stop the music is good but you shouldn't need an app for that.

abysmal fake multistaking, apps always restart and it can easily be filled by just the same text conversation.
Don't know. Sounds like an app problem, rather than an o/s problem

Contrary to what people say on the boards, Windows Phone does lag, especially on the browser( that doesn't even have a forward button nor flash support) .
Must be your phone - I have never experienced that ever.

Apps are expensive for no reason and lack features, they are also laggy as he.ll if they are third party.
Again. Blame the developer for the lagginess. The price of my apps run from free to 2.99 - hardly bank-breaking.

Thats just on the top of my head, there more.

I'm sure you have a laundry list of stuff you wish was different or added - heck, we all do.

Doesn't change the fact the o/s is still buttery smooth and pretty damn solid - how long did it take for Android to become smooth? It just got there with 4.1.

Honestly I don't think WP8 will satisfy you. Then again, I don't think iOS or Android will either.

I'm on the bench yes. I don't want to get an Android device I just want Windows Phone to be as good as Android. I don't want to make excuses for Windows Phone, there's a lot of things that suck about the OS that I have to deal with them on a daily basis.

I'm still hopeful for the WP8 reveal this month, I mean Windows 8 looks so good. Why can't this level of though and polish be apply to our mobile OS? Microsoft is a big company, they should bring their A game if they want to compete with Apple, this B,C grade stuff is not cutting it.

You mean, the polished OS that doesn't even have unified inbox functionality?

You don't have any idea what you're talking about.
