Screen Protector--necessary?

I've had my Icon for almost a week, and even though I bought a screen protector for it, I don't really want to use it. I love the look and feel of it 'naked'. I'm just wondering if anyone else is using one, or if anyone has had a problem with scratches and such. I did put a case on it, so if I turn it upside down, there is a little bit of a 'lip' to protect the screen. I always used screen protectors on my android phones, but those screens didn't feel as thick as the gorilla glass on this thing (except for my old Xoom tablet, which felt like a tank).

I've never liked screen protectors —I think they detract from the look and feel of the phone, so I've rarely used them before. I don't have a single scratch on my Lumia 1020, and I've been using it daily, without protection, since February. Didn't get a scratch on my Lumia 800 either, and I used it for almost a year.

However, I'm careful not to put the phone in the same pocket as my keys. Other than that, I don't treat it that carefully.

Yea, one grain of sand in the pocket and your nice new "naked" screen will look like crap. Better to be safe than sorry as far as I'm concerned.

I use a glass screen protector on my phone. I love the feel and protection they offer. It feels like it doesn't have a screen protector on at all. I don't have an Icon, but they are worth it if you can find one.

I used my icon for a little more than a week (maybe even 2) and didn't have any scratches. This is with just a frosted clear tpu case, but it sure was always in the back of my mind a lot "I hope my screen isn't scratched". I got a otterbox defender recently and works great!

I haven't had a screen protector on my Icon for a couple months now. I first used the pre-cut ones from Verizon, but they had a tacky feel to them. I switched to the universal ones from Verizon and they worked better. However, because you have to trim it and because of the curved glass, as soon as I put my Icon into my Dry Case (http://www.drycase.com) the protector came off. The dry case is essentially a waterproof pouch that you put your phone in and pump out the air. I use it when going to the beach.

I've been too lazy to put on another one. I've had no problems. So I guess necessary is subjective.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I tried putting on the one I bought, but because of the curved screen, it wouldn't stay on the edges. It looked and felt like crap, so I took it off. I'll look into a higher quality protector, but I'll go naked for now.

I don't use screen protectors, but I am very careful with my camera. And yeah, the look at slick feel of the screen is super nice. Just do your self a favor and never take you phone to the beach. Like admorris#AC stated, it only takes a couple grains of sand to scar your screen, even with Gorilla 2 or 3 glass.

Screen protectors take so much away from the hd display, I mean that's kinda why I love the icon. But ive had a surface rt 2 for 6 months and did some questionable things that would have damaged the screen, however it didn't. The surface does have gorilla glass, so I mean it seems to stand up to some serious stuff

Personally on my Lumia 1520 I did put one on but it really looked crap. I mean screen protectors gets scratched easily right? So what do you do? Do you put a new one on all the time? Nope...just leave it. Next thing you know the screen protector is scratched, dirt gets underneath, corners are peeling off....and yet..people still leave them on which makes the phone look worse. As long as you got a decent case for the front and back with a magnetic lock like I have for around five pounds then you can enjoy the screen like its meant to. Just common sense not to put the phone in the same pocket as keys and money and it will be fine. Had mine for 2 months now and looks great still

I've had screen protector on my 928 since August last year. I do get soft scratches on it sometimes but it kinda heals itself and next day it's clear again. One protector in 11 month and still looks as I put it on today
