Sensor Core too sensitive?

I've given up on using Sensor Core to track my walks. No matter which app I use it always records steps I never take. All I have to do is move my phone and it records steps. My wife has an 830 and it does the same thing. I'm surprised more people don't notice this. Or is this a bug that will get fixed when the full denim update is released?

Mate apparently I did 1,700 steps yesterday when I drove to work, sat at my desk all day and drove home then went to bed.
