Shipping early?

I find it so weird that the red Type Cover is showing BackOrdered for so many people, when I ordered mine just last night and it's showing In Process. Honestly, I feel like that status actually bears no significance and their system is just a massive mess - it's already managed to screw up my order after all.
 
I just spoke to customer support via chat and they claimed mine would ship 6/30. I hope he was mistaken because I see no point in pre-ordering with MS if that's the case.

When did you pre-order? If you pre-ordered after they had already sold out, then I can understand them essentially putting you in line at the time you ordered.
 
So I just chatted with customer support, and someone named Rhazy tells me (in broken English) that mine will ship by June 20, and that the "backordered" status simply means it was pre-ordered. I understand that "Rhazy" may not be fully in the loop, and her explanation is not consistent with the fact that other people have a red cover "in process" rather than "backordered." However, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how it plays out. Worst case scenario, I'll be using my SP3 with our old type/touch covers until the red one arrives.

Basically as soon as pre-orders were available. However, I called in a few days ago to apply a student discount and it looks like they cancelled my old order and placed a new one. So the order date is now 6/15. I may be screwed. :(

I called in and spoke to a guy that sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about that claimed 6/20. I'm taking a second run at chat support now. They need to tighten up their post-sales support a bit.
 
I did my call with Microsoft Store...they gave me the same, robotic answer: Ships ON the 20th...5-7 day delivery. :(
 
Yeah, second lady I spoke to claimed 6/20. I hope it ships from California like my Xbox One did.
 
No offense but why are you guys wasting time with the chat support? They obviously do not know anything. I know we are all anxious but thata not going to help anything since they have no credibility.

I wasn't aware they weren't privy to any real information. Phone support seemed pretty bad so I gave chat a try. Nothing to do now but wait I guess.

You are right...most of us in the US should see our shipment notices tonight or tomorrow but it is cutting it close... :)

For the same reason you're wasting time on a WPCentral forum reading a thread with a bunch of posts from customers who know even less than the chat support people. ;)

There's no harm in asking them.
 
Lol true but at least here we can see if someone posts that theirs has shipped. That gives me a little more hope than the support

Still in process on my end. No charges to my chase card yet. Checked my email and junk mail in case my account was flagged - nothing. The wait is killing me.
 
I wouldn't worry about it. When I pre-ordered the SP2 through Microsoft online they had some deal where they had FedEx or UPS hold the package at the closest warehouse to you so it gets to you on the release day. I would be impressed if customer service people were that well informed of the process.
 
I got mine on Monday but I pre-ordered from TigerDirect.com I've been playing with it all day today :D
 
The "ships on the 20th, 5-7 day delivery" mantra is called "under promise, over deliver" and is very common in customer service. Yes, some may take that long, but the vast majority will be way ahead of that curve.

Agreed...so either some of us are getting ours from the US (and not China like the RT pre-order was) or we will be in the "takes that long" category.

That said, I still wish Microsoft Store's customer service was better.
 
Quiet thread today...guessing a lot of us in the US with preorders still haven't got "shipped" notices. Those in Canada who did...where is it currently located in its journey to you?

I thiink how it has been explained in this and other threads though, you will likely not see a notification until the night before or even the same day as it is released from the local UPS, FedEx or USPS facility.
 
Still no change on mine and haven't been billed yet either. I pre-ordered on the 22nd.
Funny thing, I ordered a sleeve for it on Monday, from the MS Store, and it was delivered today,,lol
