I am thinking about getting this phone....

I am thinking about getting phone this device. Any suggestion on the device. I'd rather get the Icon but VZW is not longer selling that phone. Look forward to your assistance.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

I would go with the Icon. I'm using it with the Developers Preview running 8.1 and it's great despite what many are saying about the phone without the Denim update. Don't get me wrong I would love Denim but the phone still rocks without it.
Here's a link to my previous post about Straight Talk don't know if this helps.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

Honestly, I'd rather go with HTC One M8. Now the Icon is a pretty powerful device. But I'd rather go with the HTC because it's a much more newer phone than the Icon. Which means it's more likely to have a longer support.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

It's a great phone. I moved from the icon to the One M8 for Windows because the updates for the icon were non existent. People with icons are still waiting. It's a fast phone, good looking, has software buttons as opposed to hardware buttons, and probably the best stereo speakers you'll find on a phone. Only con, in my opinion, is that the camera is not the best. It's still ok, but not as good as the icons.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

I have never owned an Icon so I can not compare them, But I have owned my share of phones and I have to say the M8 is the best I have owned to date. But the choice is yours , buy what you like and not what others think you should buy.

Historically Lumias have been getting better & longer support than htc's windows phones... And it's not like m8 has significantly better specs either, they're nearly identical. I'd take the icon.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

The One M8 is a current flagship that's up to date.
Or you can get a classic phone from the past and deal with it.
Both are very good.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

I understand where you coming from. But, please stop thinking about the HTC 8X when you hear or see an HTC phone. If they didn't cared enough. They wouldn't have ported the HTC One M8 than. Not only that. They have showed a good amount of support so far. With Xbox cases and working with the dot view case with Cortana. Updating the firmware. Unlike the 8X, the M8 is a high end phone so it will def get support.

Also, I was also trying to be slightly, just slightly biased on suggesting the M8. Because, Lumia can't push Windows Phone forward alone. The HTC One M8 is an amazing phone with great features of it own and amazing build quality. You guys need to forget the past and give HTC and chance. Because, they're here and we should show them some love otherwise they won't come with another phone for WP (can't wait for the rumored One M9).

The HTC is not a much more newer phone then the icon lmao. That's just hyperbolic lol. If a phone comes out in February and another comes out in August of the same year that doesn't make the Feb phone lesser than the one that came out in August. Lol.

You should get the icon over the m8. In most cases the Lumia tend to have a much longer shelf life then anything from HTC and with the recently announced Lumia denim update, it brings some exclusive features and even greater enhancements to the icon.

Plus you can probably possibly find it online

Also check out the Samsung se.

Not in the case of the Icon. It has been discontinued and is not being sold by Verizon or Microsoft. Perhaps they will begin selling it again, but I do not know. I also don't know why it was so quickly discontinued.

Now that Micah is posting here, any predictions as to how quickly this thread gets locked? I'm betting on 48 hours.

To the OP:

The M8 is a great phone. I upgraded to the M8 from a Lumia 810. I love the phone. The M8 is fast and sleek, and runs the latest version of the OS. Here's my recommended considerations:

1. How important is the camera to you? The Icon's camera is better, hands down. Also, the M8 doesn't have a dedicated camera button.
2. Have you heard the boom sound of the M8? At first I thought it was gimmicky, but I find myself using it way more than I thought I would. For example, I was recently on a business trip, and my M8 provided the music in my hotel room. It sounds way better than the cheesy alarm clock in the room that supports MP3 input.
3. Understanding that the Here app suite is available on the M8, how important are the Lumia exclusive apps? The only one I miss is MixRadio, so now I use Pandora and Xbox Music.
4. Have you considered accessories? Any accessory for the Android version will fit the M8 for Windows. This opens the doors to a lot more options.

Performance-wise, I am assuming the Icon is as fast as the M8. Both are attractive, although I prefer the all-metal design of the M8. The M8 is an outstanding phone. I have no regrets with my purchase.

You're probably going to see others speculate that the M8 will not receive an update to Windows 10. This is ridiculous. It will. The M8 is part of the HTC Advantage program. They guarantee updates for two years. (not sure when the clock started, but that shouldn't matter for Windows 10.) Microsoft is also using it as a test device for Windows 10.

Let us know what you decide. :)

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

Microsoft is internally testing 10 on the M8 (among a hand full of lumias), this is not HTC's second WP so this isn't giving them a "second" chance (the many WP7 HTC devices were all awesome and were well supported), firmware and HTC app updates have been frequent and on par with HTC's android updates. M8 is great now and has a bright future. Nearly all the distaste Micah harbors against HTC is invalid, at this point.

I use here drive, never used any of the other Lumia apps. Most of them are gimmicks anyway- what I mean by that is, a lot of the Lumia specific camera toys can't actually leave the phone- the photo effects can only be viewed on the phone as there is no compatible viewing software for any other platform. In that light, such features can only ever be gimmicks.

Real hardware buttons > hide-able onscreen virtual buttons > capacitive buttons.

The dot view case is impressively good at protecting the phone. Dot view features: Eh they're neat.

I can't speak for or against the icon. I could ramble on about the M8 for much longer if desired.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

Real hardware buttons > hide-able onscreen virtual buttons > capacitive buttons.

I agree with this. Before buying, I thought the onscreen buttons would be a downside compared to the capacitive buttons on my Lumia 810. Turns out I was wrong. I really like the hide-able buttons. No accidental key presses while playing games...

What do you want in a phone? Can you list some sort of criteria? One can't realistically suggest until they know what you are looking for in a phone. ;-)

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

Yeah get the M8. Give htc some money in their pockets so they can make more WP devices. That's right guys there are more OEMs than just Microsoft and Nokia

Sent from my awesome Lumia 735

re:

I have a friend with an M8. He says its the best phone he's ever had. Fast, great screen etc.

It is a flagship phone for sure.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

I have the M8 and love everything about it even the camera. It is HTC's flagship just as Icon/930, 1520 are Lumia flagships. To the OP, the Icon is a great phone and if you're leaning in that direction that by all means get one secondhand. It is a shame it was hamstrung by Verizon. I think you'll be happy if you choose the M8 as well. Only you can decide after comparing the two.

Re: I am thinking about getting this phone....

Look I'm biased toward the one m8 I love it however i would wait a little if you can MWC is right around the corner. Hell you might be able to get the one m9 with windows if that comes. If you can't I'd suggest trying to play around with one and see if you like it or not then go from there.
