Sizing photos in Instagram Beta

Using Instagram Beta on my HTC8X, it always forces me to crop out most of the photo. Even though it says "scale and crop", I cannot resize the photo, all I can do is crop. Which always results in too much of the photo being left out. So I continue to use Instagraph to upload photos to Instagram, gives me better sizing options. Am I missing something?

It is a beta, features will be added. This is only version 0.1 and I am actually that it is how it is because white or black gaps either side of the photo look disgusting and completely ruin instagram's beauty

This is why I use 6tag. You can upload a full resolution photo. I hate it when instagram wants me to crop my photo.

That's just the way Instagram is on all platforms. They prefer you to have a square/1:1 picture. But of course a lot of people want to upload the full photo, so a lot of 3rd party apps have emerged to fill that need (you can search for "photo square" in any app store). 6Tag also has this option built-in.
