SkyDrive duplicating files

Hi all,

Recently I started to run low on space on my 45GB SkyDrive and decided to look through my videos (because of the size) to see if I can free some space before purchasing more.
To my surprise I found out that many file in Camera Roll folder were duplicated and after carefully double checking all the duplicates I managed to free some 10GB of space!

The best way to look for duplicates for me was to go to www.skydrive.com, navigate to Camera Roll folder, then switch to Details, sort by name, then to look for files ending with " 1".
Here is an example of duplicated file:
WP_20130824_13_58_01_Pro
WP_20130824_13_58_01_Pro 1

I don't know if it's SkyDrive's fault or WP8's fault uploading the files twice, but you'd better go and have a look if you can free space and save some bucks!

P.S.: Don't get confused with files like this "WP_20130824_13_58_01_Pro (1)", this is a file that has been edited in WP8 and saved [automatically] under different name.

Edit: I'm using the Auto-upload feature on WI-FI only and I believe this is causing sometimes the files to be uploaded twice when the connection has been lost.

Regards
Boshko

Just a thought, what is causing your connection to be lost? Not sure that is the case but curious to your thought behind it.

I was on vacation, taking hundreds of pics and went 2-3 days with crappy WiFi at various hotels. I didn't have any issues with duplicate photos even though my WiFi was on and off and creating a deal where at one point I had ~200 pictures in the waiting to upload que. (We went to the Rose Parade and my wife took 3-4 pics of every float with my phone, haha)

Is there any rhyme or reason about WHAT pics are duplicated? Might it be an issue where you get dups of pics you cropped or of pics you edited the color on them?

Well, bad WiFi was just a guess, I'm not sure this is causing it. I was most concerned about the videos. 10 gigs of duplicated videos is not a joke! Maybe it's just me and hopefully this won't happen again. Still I will be checking from time to time if I have new duplicates.

I didn't notice any specific type or time of photos that were duplicated, but will keep an eye. Thanks.

Definitely the pics and videos that were duplicated haven't been edited, so that's not my fault.

I found Nokia Camera to be the culprit. Every time you start NC it duplicates the last pic taken with NC. If you take pics with the stock camera app all is good, no duplicates. I have switched back to stock camera as default...shame, I liked Nokia Camera

Brilliant solution! Thanks, I was really struggling to find a way to get rid of all these duplicates!

If you open your onedrive camera roll folder in file explorer on your PC, you can search for *1.* and this will find all the files ending in "1" (it will also handily ignore files ending in "(1)" ). You can then select all and delete. Wash, rinse and repeat for 2,3,4 etc (I had up to 5 copies).

Mark.

Oops. One caveat: this will also delete files that legitimately end in "1" as part of the file name (or 2 if you use *2.* for example). I did it anyway because in several GB of duplicates I had about 30 photos that were affected. Afterwards, I went to the recycle bin and restored the legitimate files manually.
