Skype?

anybody install skype beta yet? is there a way to have the app run in the background and for you to get notifications everytime someone IMs or calls? seems like the app just stops working when you change screens...:straight:

Its not baked into the OS and its pretty basic right now, no background agents. So when you press the windows button or back out of the app, it closes. App has to be open to be connected online, essentially.

Its still up in the air right now..there were rumors it would come when the 900 was released. Definitely by the release of WinPhone 8, if that's any consolation.

think they have two potential release paths. They will either be releasing it pre OS update (be it a release of or level of Tango or WP8) in which they discussed full OS integration OR as a separate app in the marketplace. I suspect its just a matter of them deciding how far along testing is going as well as where they are at with full OS integration testing

I know it's taking a longer time than most of us would like, but I have no doubt the end result will be worth it.

well I think the app runs very smoothly, best I've used in any OS so far. All that's lacking is the ability to run in the background. *sigh* guess I'll just have to do with it till then.

Doesn't matter, the official app won't have background support either, from what I've read.

I really don't understand why they can't just do it like Tango (the application, not the OS update) does it and send a push notification.

The current Windows Phone API doesn't support backgrounding for VOIP. I fear that it won't be until Apollo until we have a GOOD version. For now, it's good for making calls but not receiving them.
