Though I never used either 1020 or 1520 before, but if you are a common user, I will recommend a Lumia 1520, if you don't mind its big screen.
Lumia 1520 has better specs because it focuses on multimedia and gaming entertainment, and for selfies, landscape photos, 20MP of rear cam is more than enough imo.
Lumia 1020 has great camera, yes, but with human's eyes you will hardly see differences between 20MP and 41MP, I think. But if you want real photography, get an 1020, of course. Hope this is helpful 😏

What are you going to use the 41MP for? Nobody will ever make comments on pics like "OMG, that's 41MP pic!" or "You should be a pro photographer, you have a 41MP camera!". People normally see the subject on pics and not the resolution. The 20MP camera on 1520 will be enough to give you great looking photos. Plus, you don't want to take a lot of 41MP photos on 1020 or you will use up your storage space all the time. 1020 doesn't have expandable storage.

What do you think about Nokia Lumia Icon/930? 5" screen other specs same to 1520, except CPU.

Well as I own an 1020, I can recommend it if taking pictures with amazing quality is important to you. And yes, there is differences between 20Mpix and 37/41Mpix. The differences becomes more apparent the bigger screen you use to view them. And then there is low light capability of 1020 which is regarded unmatched. And WP 8.1 is just as smooth and snappy with 1020 and 1520 or even 520! For gaming and media, I wouldn't recommend 1020 as the battery isn't made for them. If you want good phone with amazing smartphone camera, then get 1020. If "good enough" is sufficient for you in pictures, then choose 1520 :)

The thing is, fewer and fewer people are using BIG SCREENS. Everybody is going "mobile". Unless you are using 41MP photos for prints, then by all means, get the 1020. Most people will just view your photos from their low res smartphones, so there's really no point taking a high res photo. :p

I just never found out just who would use this. There are photographers out there who would use there camera to take actual pictures. But which photographers want a windows phone? Its hard to tell. And I've also heard that the 1020 is a little laggy and choppy when it comes to anything other than taking pictures, which if I'm honest, is an important aspect of the phone, which is where the average consumer comes in. They don't want a slow phone...
Its odd where the 1020 fits in, but all in all, its just another wonderful windows phone!

The 1020 takes amazing pics and is only slow on being able to take another photo within 3sec. 8.1 runs super smooth on mine. The battery is the killer of this phone, imo.

Its hard to recommend the 1020 as 41 megapixels must take a fair size of ram and you have no SD support. And despite the 1520 which has Half the camera pixels bear in mind the 1080p screen makes up for the 720p on the 1020. In all honesty.... I have a 1520 and the pics are so amazing you could easily think it was taken on a 1020. The HD screen makes a difference. And bear in mind you can put all games and apps on SD card. The 1020 cant do that so with filming, pics, games and apps you really cant have too much on the 1020. The 1520 can take 128GB cards plus the internal 32GB inside. So........really its a choice of 1020 with limited ram and 720 screen...... Or a 1520 with 1080p screen, loads of ram, powerful hardware and big screen. If your going to play a game or watch tv or browse who could say no to a big screen. I am no way putting the 1020 down. Great phone. The size of the 1520 is not an issue. I have a magnetic case on it and it fits deep in my pockets with out poking out. That's wearing baggy combats as I am not a jeans person. Hope my comments help. And of course....do go and see both phones in person at a store too.
