I just recently got the newer version of the Microsoft Wireless Display adapter and plugged it into my "Pub Room" TV. It works perfectly with my SP3. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to use the extended screen without the touch cover or keyboard?

I like to extend the display because then it fits full screen. I play videos and movies this way as I can stream the content on that display while still using the surface. But to do that I need a mouse/keyboard to drag the app over to the extended display. Is there a shortcut or way of doing this with the touchscreen keyboard?

Will using the pen work?

I didn't think of the pen, was using my finger but all it did was snap the app. It did show on the other screen as I dragged it... but when my finger hit the edge of the surface that's when it snapped the app to the right side of the surface screen. too bad there isn't a "send to second screen" button.

I have not checked, but I know that you are suppose to be able to assign different functions to the pen, maybe yo can assign "send to second screen"? just thinking out loud.

I have to get the new pen. I have the original that came with the sp3. The top button only worked with win 8.1. Ten broke it.

I just checked, and you can assign an app to a pen click; but, there is NO "Second Screen App" available at current.

When using a second monitor, should it be MWD or any other, with SP3 W10 in extended screen mode, you are kicked out Tablet mode and the second, extended screen is unfortunately out of fingers' or pen's reach - you are right.
There is however a trick to achieve what you want without any separate mouse (or type cover) attached.
When you activate the virtual on-screen keyboard, you can choose between two flavors keyboard, the simple one (which I am usually activating) and a full version (see picture below).
Croquis.jpg
If you activate the full version of it, you'll see some keys appear which are not available on the simple one and, specifically, the Windows key. Having your favorite movie application activated on the primary screen it is then easy to activate this full virtual keyboard and use the combination of keys Windows+Shift+Right(or Left) Arrow (when using the virtual keybaord, you even don't need to depress them at same time, just press Windows which remains engaged, then Shift -dito- then Right(or Left) arrow).
Done... Other shortcuts will work the same way (Alt+Tab...) Moreover, if the application was full screen on one screen, it will be full screen (possibly resized) on the other after being moved, etc...
You do not have full control on what's going on on the second screen (no pointer) but it is not bad at all.
Hope this helps.

I had to figure out how to activate the full keyboard. Mine was greyed out. But that keyboard trick did work... bouncing the app between screens. I messed with the tubecast app. The only problem I had with it is that it would not go over to the extended screen when I made it full screen. But this definitely help when my touch keypad is not close by.

I do not know Tubecast app so can't help there.
Could you say more about the "full keyboard" option that was greyed out and how you solved this?
Glad it somehow helped - Pierre

By default, the "standard keyboard" is turned off in the settings (Settings, Devices, Typing; "Add the standard keyboard layout as a touch keyboard option").

Personally, I think it should be on by default. It's one of the first things I flip on when I do rebuild.

I do not remember I ever switched this on and this keyboard is available to me.
Probably because it was quite evident to me that this had indeed to be on by default.
Thanks for the clarification regarding this tip.
