Spacebar stopped working

We have a 625 which seems to have a odd problem.
You can type a message as long as you do not use the spacebar. If you press the spacebar you can not type anything else.
If you avoid the spacebar you can type whatever you like, although messages that read "thisisjustatestasmyspacebardoesn'twork" become difficult to read.
As it is a key and it's the same in portrait or landscape I think it's a bug rather than a hardware issue.
Any help would be massively appreciated.

Have you tried either a soft or hard reset to resolve the issue?

Can't pull the battery out of that model but have done the turn off approach to no success.

Try using the Nokia Software Recovery program?
