surface pen/windows update

Was just in a Microsoft store and was told that a new widows 10 update was coming that would allow the surface pen to work with any program including Google Docs. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I think they gave you a load of BS. The pen sure works in "every app", but if the app doesn't care about ink then all it will do is act as a glorified pointer arrow. Microsoft can't "automatically" force Google Docs to be ink-compatible. If Google doesn't do it, then how would their Google Docs know "how" to store the ink markings? It's Google's job to update their app.

Maybe, maybe not. Since the stylus is active and the screen has that extra layer to support stylus input, why could it not be an update that simply opens pen input through the screen and offers to insert the content as a png or something similar?

I've received the Anniversary update and don't see how it will work with Google Docs. Shame Microsoft's saleswoman sounded so confident that it would work.

That part you can do (Draw on top of anything you see), but the ink itself won't be stored inside/part of the Google document file unless Google decides to add inking ability to their service. Microsoft can never "change" that.

But Microsoft could make the ink from the screen save as a jpg/png/gif/what-have-you image. Right?

And Google Docs certainly does accept insertion of images, right?

That would be partial support with Google still being passive...

Basically the Screen Sketch as mentioned above. You could do your markups and attach that. Not quite the same as inking right on the document, but handy for note taking and sharing.
