Surface Pro 3 charger with Surface Book

My spare SP3 charger should work with the Surface Book, right? I know it's only 36w (vs. 65w for the Book's charger), but the connectors are the same.

You'll probably get the message that it's plugged in, but not charging.

I tried mine. The battery continued to drain even though it said it was charging. Not helpful.
