Surface Pro 3 vs Surface 3

Is it really worth going to the Surface Pro 3 over the Surface 3 ? I don't use photoshop or video edit. I am just worried about slowdown from the atom processor on the Surface 3.

Is the weigh difference really that big of a deal with the Surface Pro 3 vs the Surface 3 ?

Re: Surface Pro 3 vs Surface 3

For general use, the Surface 3 is perfect. I'd get one myself if I didn't already have a SP3.

Re: Surface Pro 3 vs Surface 3

The 3 isn't really slow.

The only reason I would not get one performance-wise was if I needed heavy duty gaming chops (Planetside 2, GTA V, Crysis...). (or heavy-duty Photoshop, hash calculating, 3D modeling, absolutely massive Excel sheets...)

or if it was my primary PC, where I would need to do those things on occasion.

Re: Surface Pro 3 vs Surface 3

I sold my surface pro 3 for a surface 3. the thing I miss/don't miss about the sp3 is the screen size. but what I like about the s3 is the lack of fans and more tabletish size and weight. I have not noticed a performance issue in the couple of weeks of using it.

absolutely massive Excel sheets...
.

Just curious. I'm a heavy excel user, most of the files I use then to be 4-10mb in size, sometime I consolidate files and it out swell up to 20-25mb.... mainly due to pivot tables. I'm very tempted to get the SP3. ... any advice appreciated. Thks

I actually can't say for sure, I was using that because I was thinking of some anecdotal story about some small business having multi-gigabyte sheets.

I think its best to try out that activity on a test device, maybe at the store. If no 3, a last gen atom tablet may be a suitable substitute.

Hmmm... I've used mine for video and photo editing, and it works well. I have the i5/128GB. If it can handle that kind of processing, I'm pretty sure it can handle an Excel spreadsheet.

Re: Surface Pro 3 vs Surface 3

I have the same questions about the Surface 3. When I got the 2 it was fast and snapping. It kind of surprised me on the performance. However, now, not so much. I'm just not sold on the atom yet.

On the Microsoft Store site, they claim the S3 has about 80% of the processing power of an SP3 equipped with an i3. When thinking about the SP3, I've made the assumption that the i5 would be the minimum processor for any heavy jobs. An i3 just wouldn't be capable of real data manipulation. And dropping the i3 by another 20% processing capability seems like a lot. If the S3 is being used as a fantastic tablet, with email, word processing, web surfing, etc., it should be fine. If the demands are going to be more stringent, it's probably not enough. Just my 2?.
