Survey: are you satisfied with WP8.1 so far, or is it not what you expected?

Very satisfied with 8.1, improved battery life, a ton of additional new features, adding fwd/back swipe in IE...very pleased. I just hope MS keeps pushing the customization options further, one of my fav things its changing around the way my start screen looks and id love to have even further options.

Hey MSFTisMIA! Yea, I still love it. I am hoping that 'Goldfinger' is going to be a variant of the 930, but with a SD Card Slot and with luck Glance as well. If that's true there's a fair chance I will get it in November or soon after.

Yup, when people say silly things, I just want to poke them with a sharp stick. His comment probably mostly comes down to the de-emphasis on the hubs in favor of applications that can be updated more frequently. Overall I think it is wise for the OS and I hope that a lot of the features we lost in the hubs may be replaced via hooks in updated social programs and such. Certainly there's things that need to be done with 8.1, however I see it as a huge step forward. Other GDR's will fix the mistakes and add new features...

Overall I am quite happy with 8.1 despite the problems. So yes, I definitely agree with you.

Agreed.

Personally, the hubs are still a good idea that just need to be modified. My biggest issue with them is that MSFT hasn't filled out the back end services to make them as productive as possible. The office hub has great potential. Can we get a list of shortcuts for common features here? Say if i wanted to scan a document, can I get that shortcut listed in the menu option, even if it means you're opening an app to do it? Wouldn't that be faster than going back to open the app to do it yourself?

Yes, the killed the games hubs to some degree, but perhaps it can be a place where people go to manage profiles, add folks to games, etc...even if they plan to still leave the games showing up in the general apps list. I think I opened a thread a while back on this topic and sadly, I still think this is one way to add an extra level of uniqueness to the OS. Now that we have access to quad cores, etc, there's no way the OS couldn't take advantage of the processing power to do that.

I really love 8.1, but I wish there was a quick fix for the Wi-Fi calling app on the T-Mobile Lumia 925 (texting through it is broken with the 8.1 update).

Posted via the WPC App for Android!

1020 and 1520 with minimal bugs. Mostly App's not updated for 8.1 that annoy me. I guess I'm lucky, so far... Loving the update though!

Thus new upgrade released tofsy is still good. And wondering how to solve share problem. If I want to share an article in CNN.com for example, via email. I see a list of email option. But once you try to send ....it kicks you back to the article. Hence sharing failed. Very desperate for a solution.

Rolled my 520 back to WP8 yesterday, glad I kept my 928 on it. Will be interesting to see how long it takes for non updated WP8 phones to become unusable, due to outdated apps/integration (FB, Twitter, Sky/Onedrive, etc).

Edit: as for expectations: no, it did not meet mine. I expected upgrades, not a complete rewrite and abandonment of so much that drew me to the OS in the first place.

Hubs could have been redone in a way to allow upgrading, instead, they abandon them. They use their metrics to say people passed through the pictures hub on the way to look at the camera roll or other albums -- their metrics evidently did not include the pause and the smile that many people enjoyed seeing a favorite as a panoramic background. They redid the phone app to make it less smart, to make it more like my wife's flip phone, and removed obvious UI clues (circle phone icon for dialing) in favor of an action with no obvious clue that is not the same elsewhere (tapping the name). They rammed the status bar down our throats after telling us just a few years ago how we didn't need to have cellular, WiFi, battery, staring at us all the time -- I don't need to waste my time with that stuff. They went backwards in time, and not only didn't give us folders in the app list, they flooded it with games. Just a few examples. Not bugs, bad design.

Plus sketchy performance overall, well, after standing there tapping my non responsive 520 like a bargain basement Android phone, I realized I needed to roll back.

And don't think Cyan will magically include "drivers" for better performance -- these things all run on the same chipset, it may include a couple Nokia tweaks for camera etc, screen brightness, but performance and battery won't be changing significantly. This thing is live in the wilderness already, there aren't any major fixes coming either.

Sorely disappointed.

I don't have the 8.1 but while I like many of the features showcased, the FB chat integration was one of the biggest things that originally sold me into WP. If I wasnt so deep into the ecosystem, I could as well now get some other OS since it's gone.

So, I downloaded some videos to the Phone. They reside in a Videos subdirectory and the ill-named XBOX Video player can find them. Great. One place to look! So today I take a video of a litter of puppies, thirteen puppies, with the built in Nokia Camera App. Does it live in my Videos subdirectory? No, It's in a photo ?lbum. I spent five minutes trying to figure out how to make the built in XBOX Video player find the video I just shot with the built in Nokia Camera App. So, here you go, use the XBOX Video App for stuff I downloaded. Oh but for the other videos I shot.. you have to use a different App. Completely unforgiveable. Completely wrong. IS there a work around.. SURE. Download a third party File Manager App and move files around. Or hook up the phone to my computer and move the files around that way. Really missed the ball on useability with this one.

Very satisfied. Gorgeous, powerful, not lacking anything substantial from the other platforms. A great, great step forward.

Only minor gripes left, like the lack of cellular/data toggle on action center.

My main issue is however still the difficulty to attach documents to an email, and I hope Cyan will improve the battery life, which suffered a bit with 8.1.

I'm OK with WP8.1. I'm not in love with it and I can hardly call myself a cheerleader for MS currently. I think there's plenty to do still, mostly with getting more apps on the ecosystem.

As for WP8.1 on the whole. Majority of the update was useless to me. Aside from the swipe keyboard and some other bits it would appear that it mostly concentrated on eye candy rather than substance. Though I do know that a lot of stuff was done in the background to help better app development so that was the best part as far as I'm concerned. It's still missing some features I would have liked but can't have everything I guess.

Being a person with a L920 I have to say waiting two years for this update was a bit on the disappointment side. This was easily an update that should have come out after the first year. Not sure what took so long. WP8.1 DP is a tad unstable so I'm hoping the Cyan update fixes some of these things for Lumias.

At this stage I'm a little uncertain of sticking with WP. I need to wait and see what phone, if any, comes out in November that may excite me. Of course remembering that I probably won't be able to buy it until January. Keep in mind that there is no phone currently on any platform that excites me so it's not just WP. All the phones are either too big or uninteresting.

Satisfied.

Works great for me at the moment.

Annoyed at all the whiners because its obvious they have no idea.

Media built up your lil egos and you clearly overstepped your limits.

Can't build a PC don't use the developer preview.

Simple!!!!!!!

Golly, I've built a PC -- or 20.

And I STILL don't like where they've gone with this release.

And it has nothing to do with bugs, or an improper install -- it has to do with a change of direction in their UI/UX path.

I love the comparison between building a PC and entering the dev preview btw: a couple taps on a screen, an automated upgrade - versus - a pile of relatively delicate electronics that need to be installed correctly along with some obscure gotchas for the new builder. Totally the same.

I'm very satisfied with 8.1, it was more than an incremental update, it's a big step forward.

@N_LaRUE
They have released it after 2 years and they did not manage to get it right: wifi signal weaker, cell signal weaker, quad core phones have bad cpu core management resulting in phones getting way to hot even on normal usage such as IE browsing, sometimes when 3G signal is gone phone goes off service before switching to 2G for almost a minute which is not acceptable. This is what happens when you rush things up just to catch up with the competition. The 930 is a great phone, but the fact that it is getting way to hot and some users find themselves with the lower right screen coming up detaching from the case is not acceptable for a 500EUR+ phone! Also the 1520 has the touch issue with the touch being registered when scrolling, again a flagship phone with a nasty issue.
Not talking about apps which indeed are present, many of them which are on ios and google playstore, but they lack many features present on other platforms, and many of them are of a much lower quality. even skype works better on other platforms..bummer
