So im playing with the WP8.1 Emulator that MS released today, and I just noticed in IE11 that you can swipe left and right to go forward and back :) I didn't see anyone else mention this so figured I would post it.. if so please mods close this or merge with the other post.

I am rather excited about this :D

Found that on my Surface tablet a few months ago when on day I forgot I wasn't on my ipad.

This was on the surface and metro version of IE 11 on W8 in general.. however this feature was not in the IE 10 on WP8 and no one could confirm if it was in IE11 for WP8.1.. I am just saying that it is there now in WP8.1, which now better mimics W8.1

Wow, that makes me so much more excited for WP8.1! I'm always finding myself irritated with the current Mobile IE. It lacks so much in functionality. It doesn't know to go back once you go to some app and come back, you only had one button and that was either tabs, refresh, or favorites. And with the Lumia 1520, most websites rendered as if the screen was much smaller.

I just checked to see how WP8.1 handles phablets, there is now an emulator for a 6-inch 1080p device. The whole OS now handles phablets pretty damn well. Appbars aren't huge any longer. In fact, if you are using an app with old code, you don't get a huge appbar, instead WP8.1 compensates by making it the same size but puts a black bar underneath it. It is so nice knowing IE11 won't look so damn useless on my Lumia 1520, or how every single app I have looks comically sized on my phone.

Oh and also during my testing, even if we didn't have this swipe back and forward gesture, we at least have a functional back button now! I tried browsing the Internet, then opened up Messaging, pressed start and went back to IE, and then pressed back and instead of taking me back to start, it took me back to the last webpage.

I can't wait to have this on my phone! This is so exciting!

Is there any way to open background tabs in IE too?

not sure what you mean by background tabs.. you can add new tabs and inprivate browsing tabs, as well as open tabs from any other computers that share the MS account (shows me what tabs I have open on my tablet and my PC).

How can i download the emulator??

You need W8 (maybe 8.1 im not sure) on 64 bit with a Hyper-V enabled chip.. but the download link is: https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/downloadsdk
it's the 2nd link (If you don’t have Visual Studio 2013, you can install Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows, which includes Update 2 RC, by using the download link below)
