Terraria Help: Can't Even Beat Tutorial

I just bought Terraria on Windows Phone but am a little frustrated because I can't even beat the tutorial. The part I'm stuck on is right after it has me build the walls and roofs to the house and asks me to put in a door by "tapping the empty space in the wall". I was tapping everywhere but nothing was happening. What am I doing wrong.

All in all, I found the tutorial frustrating because it would jump through the text and there was no way to go back and re-read what was written. The game itself seems promising, if not a little too complex of an inventory and crafting system than I was hoping for.

Maybe you have too much of an opening for the door. Off the top of my head, I think that a door is 4 blocks in height. I've encountered a few instances where doors wouldn't build, but I'd just drag around vertically beginning with the top of the wall opening, and it eventually makes a door.

Thanks! I got it now. The problem is that if you tap the screen inadvertently in the tutorial, it skips over the text and you can't go back, so I missed the part about switching to an axe to remove parts of the fa?ade and then place a door 4 blocks in height, etc. Got it now. I hope the rest of the game will be easier once I get the hang of it.

By the way, how does saving work? In some games on WP I can just press the Windows button in the middle of a game to go do something else and when I come back I'm instantly where I left off, even if it's days later (e.g. Flowerz). But in some other games, it reverts back to a previous checkpoint, sometimes long ago (e.g. Max & the Magic Marker).

On a side note, no offense to the publishers, 505 Games, as they made a solid game here that I see has been reviewed well across all platforms, but it's amazing how blatant of a Minecraft rip-off this is! It's like they didn't even try to hide it, and I'm surprised that Mojang didn't file a complaint or something long ago.

Your best friend for this game is the Terraria Wiki; just do a Google search and you'll find it. Everything about the game is in there. Just make sure you're looking at mobile-specific info.

Can I use Bing instead? I don't like the idea of Google having my data. Most hypocritical and evil tech company ever.

Anyway, I beat the tutorial and have started playing the game, but I haven't really gotten into it yet. The controls actually work quite well for a touch-screen, all things considering, but I'm not sure the game itself translates well to the mobile realm. Mobile games are all about short, 2-3 minute bursts, but this game seems to require a lot longer sessions.

The search engine is irrelevant, I'm sure you'll find the Wiki via Bing. I just referred to Google out of habit.

I think the developer did a great job of getting Terraria to work on mobile. That said, the user experience is probably stronger on a PC or console. Beyond that, this game is a bit time consuming. It's definitely not like Minecraft where within the first couple of hours you're already mining diamond and crafting top tier equipment. In Terraria it takes days to start making real progress and without consulting the Wiki you'll be in the dark about a lot of nuances.

One thing to always keep in mind is that currently there's a bug with equipping armor. Basically if you put something on and there's already an item in the slot the previously equipped item will be permanently lost. The problem is that taking gear out of chests sometimes auto-equips so you really have to be careful to take off your armor first just to be safe.

Yeah, I'll be honest, I've been a little frustrated with the slow pace of the game so far. It is a fun, interesting game, but I like Minecraft better.
