Text and smileys

Smileys sent in texts to android or blackberry phones do not show up or only show as 'text/symbols' smileys sent to my 550 from those phones only show as text/symbols - etc. You'd think smileys would be a common language like music! Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

I'm not sure why this is, I think this is just a weird OS thing with Windows 10, because I can't recall this with 8.1.
