Text message preview!!!!

As mentioned earlier with the GPS scenario... What if your WIFE is sending you questionable SMS's and are meant for YOUR EYES and not everyone in the car? Regardless of what it is, it is a private message and the option should be there.

Not sure if serious or not. Your wife is sending you pictures of her business on a phone and your worried about people seeing it? The weird expectations of privacy some people have these days is astounding and somewhat naive. Here's a thought: Don't send pictures of your genitals to a phone or post them on the internet. And if you do, you should always expect that someone, somewhere will probably see it.

Who said anything about her sending her business? A wife can't send you private information via SMS without it being a picture of herself in a compromising pose?

Seriously man, get a grip.. The point is, people don't want a random private message glowing on their screen and want the ability to make it hidden.

How about "hey honey, the collection agency called again".. That could be embarrassing around a table of friends over drinks no?

Moron.

I'm back on android now and use a 3rd party sms app called smsgo pro. It has the ability to lock with a pin sms texts from a chosen number or numbers. This works exceptionally well. It would be a nice addition to the os if ms would like to add it.

The inconspicuous mode developed (and patented) by Microsoft MAYaddress the concerns of those who are bothered by the lack of privacy. Not sure if the images from the link were direct from Microsoft or just an artist impression mock-up. It remains to be seen how easily this feature can be toggled by user. If they can make use of the power button hold-down option, then I think it will be useful. Currently WP8 only toggle shut down using power hold-down whereas Android offers few others such as flight mode, restart, etc (of course unless this d**n thing is also somehow patented).

Doens't Android have all these so called "choices" "options" look how messy it is...windows has lots of choices, settings also but people also complained that it's over complicated...then people thinks that iOS is soo simple and easy to use...I really don't understand what people want these days....

People want what they want. Really no need to understand it if it ain't hurting anyone

I strongly agree that the sms toast notification preview should have an option to enable or disable this feature. You cant keep your phone in your pockets at all times. Or even say someone is borrowing your phone, they can see you sms, theres no privacy. Should definitely be looked into.

There needs to be an option to turn it off. Sometimes, someone will send you a text message when your not in the middle of conversation. I happen to have been demo'ing something to someone when a private message appeared at the top. There should be a privacy setting to turn this off.

I'll be showing someone something on my phone, looking at photos or playing a game, and a private message pops up. Quite annoying..

This is absolutely unacceptable that you cannot turn text message preview off. Why Microsoft why???? Ios

If you guys have something to hide (i.e. "private), keep your phone away from the eyes that are not supposed to see it, or get what you deserve; caught.

A person should be able to use the device as they see fit. Options to disable or mask toast notifications to keep them as basic (or detailed) as possible should not be a tall order for any developer.

This is somewhat ironic. The more 'options' they give users, the more bloated and potentially troublesome the software will become. Then people will complain of 'lag' like what is repeatedly attributed to Android. There are trade-offs to everything. Next someone else will be saying that they need options in some other aspect of the operating system, and on and on it will go. They had to make a decision, and that's what they chose. No decision will be to everyone's liking, but that's the nature of the beast. Even in this thread the opinions are clearly divided.

Honestly, if someone is sending / receiving messages secret (or private) network for SMS / MMS, the device should be taken from him and broken with a sledgehammer moments after its wireless service to be canceled!

Anyone out there ever heard of encrypted email?

Anyone that doesn't see these sms toast notifications as a problem is just not basing their opinion in the type of reality that affects the masses. ANYTHING that reveals more than basic info (who it's from) on a LOCKED screen has got to go! Some have compared these toast notifications to the pictures that pop up when a call comes in. However, I actually have a CHOICE to remove the pictures. These notifications come up when I'm sitting in private, when I'm standing in a crowd, when my phone is locked and charging on my desk, when someone wants to see my 'new cool phone', etc, etc. It is beyond annoying. And don't get me wrong, I love my Nokia 920. I've had it for three months and continually find more reasons to love it. But as happy as I am with it, and willing to work through any other issues (and there aren't a few) with WP8, had I known about these notifications, I am sorry to say I would not have purchased a Windows phone. For this reason only I have never recommended a Windows phone to anyone, even though I love everything else about the phone.
