PM I Got From Stevovr

Here's a PM I got this morning from stevovr:

New Features Spotted started by a new member calvininmotion. The next comment was by Winterfang who commented "nothing of interest then" subsequent posts commented on the harshness of Winterfangs post, paladinleeds commented "i'm interested" calvininmotion came back on to write words and smillie to the effect "i'll leave then".which upon checking as of this writing was his last post.
i posted after this words to the effect don't leave hang about, followed by the words "winterfang has over 2900 posts alot of which are nothing of interest
please note the smillie used at the end of the statement.when i logged in last night my notifications showed i had 4 new likes and when i went to see what had been liked there was nothing. then on searching the above mentioned thread i found my post, paladinleeds post and a couple others removed. I recieved no notification for the removal or why and when i pm'd Blake he replied read the forum rules ,if you can't make a positive contribution to the thread move on.Forgive me if it sounds a bit thick but to my way of thinking Winterfangs comment to a new poster/member was the nonpositive contribution. the positive contributions were paladinleeds, mine and a couple others. They atleast stood up for the new poster and tried to encourage.does this forum look to grow or is it just a place for the chosen few where the rest are tolerated to make up the numbers to sell advervising.i can appreciate the removal of the post if it was as a result of the removal of WF's comment and thereby becoming out of context with the remainder of the thread but common decency dictates a quick pm of explanation rather than silence followed by a responce to query that makes it look like i'm in the wrong when clearly the post was liked by atleast 4 people who saw it before it was removed and probably appreciated what was said.Does a high post count give licence to insult new members and discourage them from continuing. Thanks for listening.I know D Blake is the top dog and as such his word is final but i would just like to know if your take on the situation is the same which would indicate to me the general attitude of the forum admin so i know wither to hang about or just stick to XDA and androidcentral.
God bless

Here's my response to him. It's always extremely important to back each other up:

"More happened behind the scenes here in that thread than you realize.

Let's first talk about Winterfang. Here's all I know about him from his posts. He's a young kid from Puerto Rico that works in a Kiosk at a shopping mall in Puerto Rico. He obviously has a lot of spare time at his Kiosk in order to get his post count as high as it is in such a short amount time.

What Winterfang did in that thread is what we call "thread crapping". I am not a psychologist. but the only reason I can think of as to why a person does something like this is because they want attention and are looking for a response to their opinion. This always puts the attention on the "thread crapper", instead of the topic. We don't want that in the forums. If you see it, please report it, don't participate in it.

All the posts that put the attention on Winterfang response were deleted. That was the right thing to do. Sometimes we send a PM out on a post deletion and sometimes we don't. We don't send a PM out on a thread deletion when it's, "self-evident" as to why it was deleted, which is the case here.

Now if you understand me up to this point, you should be able to understand Blake's response. What you saw as a positive response was simply contributing to the "thread crapping". That's where the confusion is on Blake's response to you.

I hope I have explained the situation well enough so you now have a better understanding as to what happened.

If you any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. "

was someone going to have the decency to tell me why my post was removed or were you hoping i wouldn't notice, especially as it appears it recieved 4 likes. did poor wee winterfang complain

I suggest you review the form rules. If you can't make a positive contribution to a thread move on to the next one.

and your telling me that winterfangs comment to a new poster was a positive contribution. if anything mine and paladinleeds were the positive contributions.they at least stood up for calvininmotion and tried to encourage him. not shoot down his first post on the forum so that his second post was i'll leave. if this is your take on the matter then this is a sad attitude and i feel sorry for you.

That makes it okay for you to attack me in a PM? You don't run this forum. We have a report button use it. All the unnecessary posts in that thread were deleted not just yours yet you are the only one complaining. Please make relevant posts and post in a civil manner. If you see a post that needs moderation report it.

Thanks for understanding
Dave
no one is attacking you.my post was deleted. i wanted a reason why.if you or whoever had had the common sense and decency to send a pm to explain the removal of the post we wouldn't be having this conversation. instead i was left to wonder why a post atleast 4 people liked had been removed and when i inquired of yourself you responded with an answer that no bearing on what my post had been about.this is not about who runs this forum but about trying to find an answer.i will also remind you that i have kept things to pms and not been public.as far as a report button there was nothing in the thread i considered worthy of reporting.it was a case of a member being a bit unfeeling towards a new member and in a mild way including the use of a big grin giving a retort back publicly which if had been left would probably served a better purpose and perhaps left the new member with a better feeling about continuing. but if my request for clarity has left you feeling threatened perhaps its your own insecurities you need to deal with.Have a nice day.God bless.

I did explain why your post was removed. You read and agreed to the forum rules when you joind the forum I just figured you were smart enough to figure it out on your own. If you need me to quote you the rules you broke let me know and I will. Do you see what I have done there? I didn't call you stupid I implied that if you can't figure it out you are. That's not right its not a civil tone if I see something like that in the forum posted talking to another member of the forum I will remove it. Now review the PM's you have sent me in this conversations. Your contributions are filled with digs like mine you know the difference. Ending the conversation with God Bless doesn't make it so. Go enjoy the forum and use a civil tone when posting and fallow the forum rules.

Dave

Sorry brow I didn't see your other thread before I made this one. He sure was a lot nicer in his PM to you. I was passed about something else when he opened the please remove my account thread so I gave him the one touch ban. I probably shouldn't have done it that way. O well we really don't need people like that wasting our time.

We should be actively encouraging members to change their attitudes as opposed to effectively seeking to ban someone.

Can we just ban winterfang instead...? ;)

NO :D

In due time, I just gave him a warning the other day. He should be banned before the end of this week as I will be watching him closely.

Disagree

We should be actively encouraging members to change their attitudes as opposed to effectively seeking to ban someone.

This

As much as Winterfang is a pain in the *** he is also a long time member of the forum. He is sometimes more work than others members. Lets try to help adjust his thinking not try to ban him.

Hop on that will ya, and start with Winterfang. I would suggest a Mr. Roger's approach:

In all seriousness you're correct, it's just hard or next to impossible to do with a few, and I mean the less than 1% that cause the problems.

Can you see it in your head?!.... Mr Rogers just going off cussing away at Winterfang when he just doesn't get it...LOL

I gave up with Winterfang after the fifth time he said the app was slow and he regretted buying it, followed by the FIFTH time of me responding to say please get in touch to discuss his problems so we could solve it.

Some people don't want to change. Some people are just dicks.

Edit: I of course agree on the overall policy though

Back to serious now. Here is the thing at some point we have to take a look at how much damage the guy is doing. I honestly believe that one member with a bad attitude can keep 10 from posting. This is where the Mod team takes over. I trust you guys will take the necessary steps to try to change winterfangs thinking. I think this is what Eric is saying not that he is trying to ban anyone just that he has taken an interest in what Winterfang is doing and with his track record it wont take long till he gets himself banned.

I agree. If you look at the infraction Eric gave Winterfang, he did an excellent job conveying that message. Here's Eric's message to Winterang. I think it's spot on:

"You've been here for awhile so you should know how we operate, posts like the one below are inappropriate for this community, it constitutes "thread crapping":

Yea I was half awake when I wrote that post but hopefully he will become productive but if he continues to be counter productive then he will be banned.
