The WP 8.1 laggy experience when returning to start screen. Do you experience something similar?

I've had this before even installing 8.1, on my 1020. Seems like something with WP8 that is still in 8.1. Just got a 1520 the other day. Figured the quad core would power through. Nope, still happens.

It's clearly an OS issue, back from 8.0.

So, after trying all I thought of (including multiple resets and fresh installing), I switched off the extra column.
Unfortunately that solved all lags. Unfortunately because I don't want to remain with those big *** tiles.

Nonetheless, after returning to old columns layout the OS is lighting fast opening apps - returning to home screen - opening apps again... Like we used to have in WP 8.0.

Now I am sad! I probably will bring back the extra column but I want my phone to be snappy.

Btw, this comes from a Lumia 720 with WP 8.1 with cyan and no DP.

At least you have the option to use two columns! My 930 also has the laggy start animation but I don't have the option for two columns!

I was considering a better hardware equipped Lumia just because of that lag, and I really like the orange 930 one. But the lack of glance was kinda of deal breaker. And now this? Such an advanced Lumia, with native 8.1, and still lags when returning to start screen? Such a disappointment.

At least you have the option to use two columns! My 930 also has the laggy start animation but I don't have the option for two columns!

I don't have Cortana enabled. Lag isn't always there. Sometimes it runs smooth, but from time to time tiles won't refresh without some lag. This inconsistency is irritating.
As I said, this it isn't happening with the extra column disabled.

Holy c***! Unpinning Cortana actually got rid of the stuttering! I don't care enough to the point where I have to unpin Cortana just to get rid of this tiny stutter so I'm just gonna DEAL WITH IT.

Don't get turned off to the 930 just because of this tiny issue, the device is super snappy at everything else and I'm sure any current little bugs will get ironed out eventually.
