Thanks ckj,

I got the backgrounds working, the Touch actually uses 3 GIF files.

tdywater_800_480.gif - the background
tdwater_800_480.gif - background for the Touchflow panels
stwater_800_480.gif - menu background

The Samsung i760 (Verizon, WM 6.1) uses the first and last of these -- tdwater_800_480.gif is not needed since there is no Touchflow or equivalent. Both tdywater_800_480.gif and stwater_800_480.gif need to be changed. (It occurs to me that mixing and matching might be interesting.)

My phone is currently set to the red, default Verizon screen. I have not tried other themes to see the hack works with those as well.

I know that for many of you this hack is now 'old hat'; but for someone like me who has had his REDFLY for less than two weeks, it's great. Many thanks to all who worked on this.:)

Hardware Hacks

When I was called for jury duty awhile back I learned I could use a PC in the waiting room. But the brilliant Redfly screen was viewable from such a wide angle that the whole room would be able to read the screen.

I know, I voided my warranty when I did this. I had a spare privacy screen from an old laptop lying around, so I removed the front bezel from the Redfly, cut the privacy screen to fit, and re-installed it. It works beautifully. Yes, I made it semi-permanent and non-removable; I don't share the Redfly viewing experience so it's not a problem for me.

I've thought about trying to add some miniature white LEDs to illuminate the keyboard area in dark surroundings. The newer lowest backlight setting helps a lot in a dark room, but some supplemental light would be great and I don't like plugging in random USB gooseneck lights that are too bright anyway. An illuminated keyboard would be great, but it flies in the face of keeping the Redfly a low-cost device. :)

I would love a retractable USB cable built into the back, too, but I'm sure there isn't room for that in the case, and there's the issue of what "tips" to offer (I've used the RF with both the 800w which uses MicroUSB and the Touch Pro, which uses MiniUSB).
