It can be hard to get the attention of those guys that put items on the front page. I got You-Doo featured when it first came out, but have had not luck getting them excited about any updates or new features
I think the best thing you can do is make sure your app is 'complete' when you first submit it to the store so when they are checking it out for review, it doesn't feel 'half baked'. After the release period, I think you have to have an extremely popular app for them to bother mentioning anything about updates or feature releases. At least from my limited experience.
I like your app idea, and I think it's cool that you are getting such an early start on app dev. You'll be a rockstar in the app dev world someday. Keep it up!
