Turing Windows 8.1 Laptop into Wi-fi hotspot

Guys is it possible to make a Windows 8.1 Laptop into Wi-fi hotspot. I tried to do it once but in vain. I'm not sure if its even possible on Windows 8.1. If anyone has done the same on their laptop can they please help me out.

I have exceeded my phone data connection monthly limit and hence need a temporary Wi-fi setup for some days.

It would depend on your laptop having the cellular radio in it, i.e. the 2520 on Verizon or AT&T. Otherwise no. If your laptop only has wifi on board, there is no normal way to make it a hotspot.

Thanks for the replies guys. I downloaded and installed Connectify on my laptop. Its working great on my laptop and now I'm able to use wi-fi on my phone.

I can assure u that this method on my blog, knotrick.com works perfectly fine though it uses a third party software.... Works on my windows 8.1 too after update.... The conventional method via netsh is not as efficient as this...
