Anyone looking to pick up a keyboard or a spare, all the Type Cover 2 keyboards are on major sale at Amazon!

Amazon.com: Microsoft Surface Type Cover 2 (Purple): Computers & Accessories

They're all Prime eligible as well. The purple is $60, the magenta is $61.50, and the cyan is $63. Make sure you choose the appropriate store to get the right price and Prime eligibility.

I pick up spares for my Surface Pro 2 and my Surface 3.

Yes, the keyboard layout is slightly different from the Type Cover 3. And the dimensions are a little off (the cover comes up to just underneath the front camera on the S3), but it works great and it's not noticeable when the keyboard is on your lap or desk and being used. The Type Cover 3 touchpad is slightly better as well (but that doesn't matter to me because I use touchscreen with a trackball).

My purple keyboard was starting to look a little old from all the usage this past year so I got excited with the sale. Picked up a cyan (love this color!) and a magenta (never thought I'd ever get magenta but what the heck).

Thanks for sharing but isn't this the equivalent of when a fashion outlet has a sale on the XXXS/XXXL sized clothes- i.e. yes it's cheap, yes they sortof work, but not they don't fit properly so you're missing part of the point.

This isn't the difference between 4 GB and 8 GB. There is no significant difference between the Type Cover 2 and the Type Cover 3. I doubt you would bet the house on being able tell the difference from a blind typing test.

What do you mean "sorta works"? It fully works. All the keys works. All the same functionality is there.

If you are such a fashion snob that you have to have the keyboard fit perfectly to the edges, feel free to pay the $129. Some people have to budget.

I disagree. I would definitely be able to tell the differences between the two keyboards as the Type Cover 3 can be propped up at an angle and has a much better trackpad. The Type Cover 2 isn't bad to have as a backup for some work but I would never use it over the 3 as the primary means of input as the later is a much better option.

The purpose of the cover is to cover the device... so yes it sortof works at that but it doesn't cover it perfectly. It's like a misfit jumper. Still does the job but it does it in a slightly less than stellar manner. I'm not saying it won't work or the keyboard doesn't work- just that it cheapens what would otherwise be a very premium feel.

As for keeping to a budget- the Surface 3 isn't exactly a budget device.
