Type Cover 2 Not Working

baandopteger, you may or may not believe but I can assure you the type2 cover works with Surface Pro though as you state the "app" does not seem to see cover, but in every other way it works, typing, swiping from side, mouse buttons and scrolling with two fingers on track pad.

And... its not about if it works or not, its about if it works as intended, which it doesnt. Its a million times better and truly functional on surface pro 2 and in my book, thats a big ball dropped by Microsoft. Its easily fixed but they dont fix it, may i remind its a 130 euro accesory

So because you can't set scroll speed, it is of no use as a keyboard, oh well, I type more than I scroll, but I can still scroll easy enough using my finger on screen, yep I sure can.

The whole concept around surface involves a keyboard dood! I want to be able to have precision when i am in desktop mode. Hence the keyboard needs to work as they say. Its one of the most expensive accessories out there on the market. Seriously! How can you not get that? Maybe you would be better of with an ipad if you dont need the desktop and the keyboard

If I had wanted an iPad I would have bought one, nearly choked, what I mean is that it's just one thing, but then I'm in my middle sixties and it just doesn't get me the way it does you, maybe I've lived too long. ; )

I just got my type keyboard 2 in the mail and it wasn't working. I updated and restarted and it instantly began working. I would definitely start there.

I was under the impression that the Type & Touch 2 covers would function with the original Surface Pro. Knowing this, I decided to sell my Type Cover 1 and purchase a cyan Type Cover 2.

When I got home from Best Buy with my new Type cover I immediately tried to use it. The cover lit up but none of the keys would work. I tried everything listed on MS support page and the keyboard would still not function. I even refreshed the Surface to no avail.

I just went to Best Buy to return it and tested other version 2 covers and the surface still did not detect them. However, when the keyboard was attached to a Surface Pro 2 it functioned.

And for clarification, my orignal Type Cover 1 had no issues with my Surface Pro. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Hey everyone I know this is late, but I figured out WHY restoring the pro works when setting up the keyboard.

First off my problem was I got a new(ish) Surface Pro and bough a Pro 2 Keyboard. When I connected the keyboard to the Surface I got 2 drivers in my Device Manager that were under unknown devices. They were something like HID Keyboard or something like that.

When the Keyboard was connected, I was able to use the trackpad and a couple of the Function keys like the Volume and Brightness, but no other keys would work.

What the issue is is that when you refresh your Tablet it it rescans the Windows Updates and should bring down a driver correctly for your keyboard.
If you have your Surface for a while and it is up to date and then try to buy/use the keyboard, it doesn't work correctly. You have to have the keyboard connected to the surface when you're going through the initial Updates or for whatever reason the Surface will cast aside that update because it does not think it needs it, then when the keyboard is connected, it thinks it has the best driver for it already (which is the yellow ? HID keyboard driver in DM).

So to fix, connect the keyboard, refresh and restore. Then update. You may not even have to update as I was told that the driver could be on the machine as an update but it is just ignored.

It's confusing I know, but I just went to the MS store and got this issue fixed for me. I hope this helps out people even though it's over a year later.
