Type Cover with Fingerprint ID Not Needed?

They have the same future possibilities --- as they both are part of the future of Windows Hello.

If Windows Spotlight is up, it'll stay there until you swipe up :)

They have some damn gorgeous photos on there. They really highlight the great displays too.

...in varying lighting conditions the camera has difficulty recognizing me. I often use the SP on a table while RV'ing and there is an extreme difference in lighting conditions. Without repeating the camera recognizing process many times, it is much easier to just touch the keyboard. On the other hand, when using the SP only as a tablet, the camera has no issues recognizing me right off the bat.

The Windows Hello sensor is IR, the lighting conditions shouldn't matter. Maybe it's the angle that's causing a problem while it is in laptop mode, perhaps your face is not actually in view of the camera?

Actually I don't think the ir shouldn't work well in sunlight. So the fingerprint keyboard is a good backup solution.

Bought the scanner keyboard with the SP4 too. No regrets.
Facial scan works far beyond my expectations. Amazing, in fact.
But future possibilities with keyboard scanner are worth the redundancy to me.
Besides, what's $30 in the overall hefty bundle? :)
Picking up a SP4 next week. FP keyboard cover is on my accessories list. Nothing wrong with redundancy.

This is a year and a half old thread

Yes, but some of us just got the SP4 so still relevant.
For instance, I love the facial recognition software. It works great. No need for a fingerprint scanner.
