Hi,

I recently unlocked the Lumia 521 through the code received from T-Mobile. I am trying to use the phone on GSM network in Asia. I cannot get the 3G to work here. My carrier's 3G frequency is 2100 which is supported by the phone and I have put in the APN settings as well. Any suggestions ?

Thanks,

In Asia it is common for telco to market a combination of EDGE and EDGE+ as 3G service which doesn't really cut it as 3G in terms of usable speed. However sometimes they also market it as HSDPA or HSPA+ that leaves an "H" instead of "3G". But sometimes "H" does means HSDPA specifically that offers 3.5G.

Bottom line, do you get a near 3G speed?

No the speed is also EDGE speed only. It shows 2G on the screen. Interestingly, I have a LUMIA 520 as well and that shows HSPA+ on the same network. What could be the problem ?

But according to Nokia the 521 is tailored for Tmobile and the 3G side is missing the more common 2100. Could that be the reason?

Check in access point what is listed on the 521 is it the same has 520.

Pull sim from 520 put in 521 does that make a difference

Under cellular make sure right network is selected

The Lumia 520 and 521 have quad band GSM which is pretty standard on most devices.

520 WCDMA 900 MHz and 2100 MHz

521 WCDMA 850 Mhz, 1700 MHz, and 1900 MHz

Hey, I have similar problem.

I have unlocked my 521 from a verified T-mobile code, and I also get 3g network network service from Taiwan's mobile carrier. However, as I notice, so far the phone only shows "2G" network.
However, as I checked, 521's data network includes
Data Network
WCDMA network: 850 MHz, 1700 - 2100 MHz, 1900 MHz
WCDMA max data speed DL: HSDPA - 21.1 Mbps
WCDMA max data speed UL: HSUPA - 5.76 Mbps
GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz
GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps
GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps

and my service provider offer 3g frequency of band 1 and 2100 MHz, which is the same as most places in Asia, e.g., Korea and Japan. But it still does not work!!!

In sum, it is weird to me, anyone want to tell me how ? thanks

The 521 does NOT have the 2100 (UMTS band 1) used in Asia and Europe, it has the 1700 (UMTS band 4) band (sometimes referred to as the 1700-2100 band or AWS band). These are NOT compatible bands and you cannot get 3G in Europe or Asia on many networks that use 2100.

sorry for the late reply. Thanks for letting me know this. It confused me because all the info I checked said 521 contains UMTS 2100 MHz......
