USB-C hub error

So I am using a USB-C hub I also use on my Surface book 2.

I get his error that the hub cannot supply enough power to connect my simple external hard drive.

Faulty port?

I was also noticing very slow charging on it. (see my other thread)

So update..

When my Go is plugged in to power (using the surface dock), the hub works.

So it seems it will not work if just running on battery?

Can anyone else confirm?

I tried the SMK Link multiport hub and it wont work either. I receive a error saying "the connected device will be limited". My Display Dock (from my MS 950 phone) works great.

I can confirm that when I plug a USBc cable for power, the hub works fine.

So there is a difference in the power draw of the Go and the Book 2.

I wonder if this is related, I purchased the Satechi USB-C Multiport Adaptor,

Plugged it into my Surface Go, and I received this warning,


Despite plugging my Surface Go charger, and also plugging in a USB-C charger to the multiport adaptors USB-C pass through charging port, the warning remains.

My Surface Go connects to my external hard drive fine through a simple USB-C to USB-A dongle whilst unplugged. May be worth trying that rather than a full-on hub.
