USB port doesn't support external optical drive

Did you ever get a resolution? I am having the same problem with an external dvd drive with Windows 10. It can play music but when I put software in it, it does the same thing you spoke of, constantly connecting and disconnecting. Any help would be appreciated!

My Xbone controller does this on my desktop USB3 ports in W10, but run up W8 and all's grand, the usual work around for W10 fun. Doubtless down to how W10 works with the drivers (I have the latest USB3 for my chipset, W10 released). Try a USB2 port, as such is likely to use MS drivers. Doing this solves my issue (or works around it).

OK here's the deal:

this drive works fine if you use a dual power USB cable, plug the data end into the pro 3 and the power end into the USB socket on the surface power adaptor. you can get the cable on amazon for around 4 bucks:
