USB3/c file share is slow on windows 10 on my 950

Is it just me, or is file syncing very slow over USB3? I have a USB3 hub, and USB c cable into my 950, and it takes minutes to load the list of folders in my Music folder. Then, creating a new folder, seems to hang. (It could also be that my desktop's instance of Edge is taking most of the CPU for some reason...)

Does anybody else think file syncing is slow?

just checking, as you didn't mention it... are you plugged into a USB 3 port on the pc? I know it may sound like a stupid question, but I've had people think using a USB 3 hub on their 10+ year old PC would give them USB 3 speeds...

Also, there are USB C cables that are USB 2.0 only.... so USB C doesn't always mean USB 3/3.1

I've done file transfers between my 950 and Surface Pro 2 and they fly!

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it was the USB 3 port. It's a newer mobo. And I thought the USB c was 3.0, it had the blue in the plug. However, I do have port on the front that I KNOW is USB 3. Perhaps there is something faulty with my hub.

USB C is the port type.... I have seen 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 USB C cables.

If you look up the pinout, there are some pins dedicated for USB 2 legacy support

Same here, creating a new folder is a pain, data transfer is very slow. USB3 to Lumia 950, latest software build. Future software builds will fix it - or won't

Slow here too. But I figured it was because I use a 200GB SD card, and that it somehow got indexed at the same (slow) time. But it's like three or four times as fast if I take out the SD card and fill it up via the SD card slot in my computer (Thinkpad S1 Yoga - whose two USB ports both are 3.0 ports).

This issue has always been there with WP. It's the unusual way in which WPs connect to Windows PCs that is to be blamed. They don't act as normal flash storages as Android phones do. But data transfer is fast. File Explorer may hang not only while creating new folders but also while remaining files and folders, but not for minutes rather for few seconds. Even USB 5.0, if released in future, won't fix this issue.

Can't confirm this - my Lumia 735 and my wifes 830 show fast data transfer - both are faster with USB2 than my Lumia 950 with USB3. And the explorer is not hanging or freezing for minutes.
@danobe: 32gb microsd card here - slow data transfer. Doesn't matter if i write data on microsd or on internal memory.

I too have a Lumia 830. The data transfer is quite fast but the FE does hang for a few seconds on renaming files especially music and video files. But only once. After that it doesn't hang until disconnecting and reconnecting the phone later.

Well, I guess I should say that the 200GB Sandisk isn't the fastest card around, and that although still slow in the inbuilt card reader, it takes about 25-30 percent of the time to transfer files to it this way than it does if I in-effect use the 950 as a card reader. I can live with the speeds of the inbuilt card reader of the computer, because it is not that often I have to transfer 160 gigs of files at one time. However, waiting hours to transfer, say, 20 gigs means that it is not feasible to do it with the phone attached. Instead, plugging the card in means it will not only be faster but that I don't have to deal with having the phone attached.

I am now at a point where I don't transfer too many large files/lots of files all the time, but it would be nice if the cabled transfer was a bit faster so I didn't have to go in and "remove" the storage in the settings, then remove the case, and then the back in order to get the SD card out, and then all of it in reverse. I have sometimes instead used a USB stick to dump movies for my daughter on, connect that to the phone and then set it to copy its files by itself. It seems faster this way than tethering it to the computer.

Edit: @mccoy: I now realise you say that it doesn't matter if it's the card or the internal memory - that the lack of speed is present in both cases. I somehow misread what you were saying.
