I just confirmed my laptop replacement for work is going to be a Surface Pro 3. An accessory option was the stylus, so question for the group - is the stylus essential for you? I'm sure this is going to be a mixed response.

Actually the pen is an included accessory with the SP3.

It depends on your needs really. I don't use mine a lot, but I keep it with me. It negligible to carry around. The times it gets used the most are when my daughter or one of her friends wants to use my SP3 to doodle and draw with. I've used it a few times to take notes with OneNote and to work in Photoshop.

Since your SP3 is for work, you now have a digital note pad (i.e. OneNote) built right in, so no more taking notes then having to retype them into Word. You can take notes in OneNote and then share them, or using OneNote 2013 convert to text and then copy them into Word or email. You can also annotate PDF files on the device and save the PDF with your annotations and then email it as needed.

The stylus is alright... I'm a student and I find it ok, all I really use it for is Onenote
