Hurray, my 1520 arrived in the mail today.

I've been working on getting it setup for awhile and I tried to do the update to the latest insider build. Error.

Well, that stinks. So I begin searching through Windows Central of course and a suggestion says to use the WDRT, reset it and do the updates again. Off I go to download the tool and start the process. We're back on 8.1 and getting setup....and I can't login to my Microsoft Account. It says basically can't login right now and to try again later. Thinking it was simple enough I tried a few more times and nothing worked. Alright, back to the forums...well, this looks like a bit of an issue since there's tons of threads on it and lots of information on the internet without much of a solution. Most people seemed to have success by changing the date and time and correcting it. Tried this, no success. Tried a hard reset, no success. Used the WDRT tool again, no success. Off I go to Microsoft Support to see if they have any help...no help there. They just say they're having sign in issues which I state I can use this account on multiple other devices, signing in and out with no issues and that this appears to be some bug related to resetting your device. He says no.

Alright, I'll wait. So while I'm waiting I fiddle around with region settings and date and time and manually setting it and somehow by the grace of god it accepts and allows me to login. I'm not going to lie I'm not really sure what fixed it or if I just got the right combination of date and time and whatnot.

Anyways, I'm now logged in and downloading the Windows 10 update.

I'll update you guys when things get rolling.

Phew.:winktongue:

That's a weird horror story for sure.

Not a specialist in that particular error, but sometimes MS locks the login for a particular account for a period of time (mostly 24 hours) apparently they do that also in the devices regardless if it's connected to Internet or not.

Again, not sure, but it's nice you were able to solve your problem.

Yeah it was a fun adventure. Wasted a few hours this afternoon fiddling around but such is life.

I just used the WDRT on my 640 and have the same issue, unable to log in.

Try messing around with those settings. See if you can get it to work. I think I manually set the time and the region again before it worked.

More impressions - holy this phone is big. I've just gotten back to it so downloading some build updates.

Quick first impressions - much snappier than the 640. Love the large screen for W10. Just seems to work well with it.

More in a bit.

Playing around a bit more. Enjoying the keyboard it seems to be very responsive and autocorrects pretty decently so far.

Just slowly getting all the apps up to date and what I want. Definitely a bit of an adjustment but so far so good.

If anyone has any tips or things I should be looking at fire away.

As far as apps go - Facebook and messenger as most know loads pretty slow. A lot faster than on my 640 but still pretty slow. I'm really not a heavy user of either though so not a big deal. Enjoying the notifications through Cortana on my SP4 throughout the work day, very convenient. (Yes blackberry had blend and android has pushbullet and others, but this works really well and convenient.)

Twitter app seems pretty good.

Put on Feedlab to look through my RSS feeds, seems pretty good, will be upgrading to support the developer soon.

installed the band app. It doesn't seem to be getting my notifications once I setup the Cortana app to receive notifications on the sp4 - I may have to look into this more. Looks the same as the android app though.

Windows Central...I've tried out both of the apps in the Store...fairly disappointing. (Don't yell at me @James Falconer ) ha ha. Just doesn't seem very user friendly to browse the forums or really do much on. May have to look at doing it through Edge.

Edge. I quite enjoy it on here, seems like a nice browser and works quite well.

Haven't had a chance to dive into the camera..more later.

True about our WC app, I use that for the news but mTalk for the forums. Man, if they could ever merge the two... it'll be perfect

Enjoy the camera, Meattray. I wear glasses, and I found out its easier to take pictures with a big screen.... and the 1520 shoots very very decent videos.

... !!

More impressions... Using edge for any period of time just eats battery like crazy.

There's definitely a difference in price and features between the two. The 950xl is newer and has an upgraded camera, Iris scanning etc. The 1520 seems like a nice phone from my current use, has a nice camera, runs windows 10 very well. I have no complaints.

I've never used the 950xl so I can't comment there but maybe someone else can.

I'd say go with the 1520. The 950XL is an awesome device, but if you just want to try out WP, the 1520 is cheaper and runs very smoothly now with W10. If money is no obstacle, then go with the XL. It's a great phone, the perfect size, with a great camera.
