This is a debate I have been seeing around so I thought I would start a thread. I will start with my thoughts. I think that the reason that there is no Speed dial in my HTC Arrive is because it is not needed. Tap and hold on the Windows icon button and voice command starts I say "Call (Insert Name)" and it does. Some have said that this is voice search and should be the long press for the Search button I disagree and here is why. This is not simply search this is the main command function for all of this OS. That is why it is associated with the Windows Icon. Microsoft has worked very hard to perfect Voice command and to make it useful as well as functional. Way back in the WinMo days I used Microsoft Voice Command and all its functions from Dialing numbers to launching programs and I think that is what MS wants you to do with this OS is use the voice command.

That said there are advantages to using Speed dial and having both could be a plus. My question to you all is, is Speed Dial needed? Post up and tell me why.

Thanks,
Dave

I use voice dial about 60-70% of the time. But there are circumstances where voice dial is not ideal and in those cases its great to have a visual shortcut. Thankfully this is one of those situations where both options are available and neither decreases the functionality/usefulness of the other.

I don't use voice dial and the persons I call the most, are pinned to the home screen, so two little pushes and the phone is calling them.

Also in the people hub the search is quite fast. Only a shame you can't look on company name. Sometimes when I forget the persons name, it would be nice to be able to look through all the contacts from that company.

So instead of your two choices, I want a third one, search on company... So I coudn't vote... (the 4th choise is tempting...)

I voted for both, because I think different people are accustomed to doing things different ways.

I'm with Kibosh though, I have my most frequently used contacts pinned to my home screen and just call them from there. Works just as well as speed dial for me.

Indeed.

One thing that is a pain is haning up a phone call, I hate having to wait for my screen to flick to life then tap the screen. I wish there was a physical hang up button. I could hang up and still have my phone by my head, or whatever. Most important for leaving messages, don't want to leave more message then intended.

Long press back, hang up.
Long press Windows, multitasking.
Long press search, voice run/search.
