There's no need for the volume down key I think. Just hold down the power key, right?
I always wonder why people include holding the volume key down. You are correct...just holding the powers key for a bit will make it soft reset.
I'm asking sincerely, because I don't know...when I hold the power button down on my 930 for 5-10 seconds,it vibrates then restarts. What happens differently if I would include holding the volume button down with that. Again, I am asking because I'd like the information if just holding the power button is not soft resetting my phone. The volume down+power shortcut exists since the last build. It will include a snapshot of your current app in the feedback app, as a bonus (as opposed to launch the feedback app manually).
As for the soft reset, volume down is required. If you wonder why people ALWAYS include it, it's maybe because that's the official MS statement: How to soft- and hard reset your Windows Phone - Microsoft Community

What we're trying to say is that holding down JUST the power key on any version of WP will cause a restart / soft reset.
Not for my 920 (W10) and 925 (Denim) I held the power button for 2 minutes and nothing happened. For my 930 (W10) however it work, it restarts after about 10 seconds.
