Vote so Microsoft don't remove the back button

Personally, I'll wait. I'd be happy with replacing the back button with a gesture like we have on Windows 8.

What is the deal with people jumping into conclusion so quickly. Like you said, it's a "rumor".

I could see them blending windows 8 gestures to replace the back button. I think a swipe down from the top of the phone could bring up the multitasking view, and a complete swipe down to the bottom of the phone could close an app.

Let's hope they don't remove the back button. Who wants to use those god awful "charms" on anything, much less a phone?

The rumor isn't about removing the back button, but removing the REQUIREMENT of a back button.
It means that hardware manufacturers will can choose to provide it or not. And obviously the OS must be adapted to work without it.

I believe in the philosophy that the more option you have, the better. So I prefer letting MS do it, and leave to the market to decide which phones are better (the ones with the back key or the others).

Ok i understand you, but what if microsoft/nokia decided to remove the button from their future devices.. How could i use it if im a nokia/microsoft fan? Ok its optional but finally may not be available in the device you want...

I think Nokia is smarter than MS and it will not remove the back button just because it became optional.
Also, I believe they must know that the back button is one of the strongest point of WP that makes it competitive with iOS.

Anyway... if for any reason they decide to kill the back button... personally I'll never consider WP an option anymore.
But I don't feel like fighting to have the OS I want... at some point, if MS keeps failing understand its users, it should pay the consequences.

I'd have a really hard time keeping the OS if they go the way of gestures. Most of the OS is already gesture based, adding more to what it has would(and will) confuse people. Gestures are ok for larger devices like the surface, but smaller devices don't really fit. Screens being the size they are, it could cause issues that are unintended.

Even if it's true; knowing the time frame we know to see 8.1 the 22nd of this month, it ain't going to change at this late date.

Its a rumor from a pretty good source. I will be thoroughly disappointed if they take away my back button.

Removing the back button isn't a great idea... I use it a lot. It would require some tweaks to the UI to make it unnecessary...

I prefer they replace the search button instead with a more useful functionality. Or just make it more customizable instead of the default browser and QRC scanner mode. Maybe it could function as a file or app search command when in tiles view, or make it open a pop up menu inside apps similar to most desktop OS. Yeah I know, MS is trying to sell Bing along with the WP8. I seldom use Bing (although I do prefer it for porn searches haha ), if I ever do need to search online, it's google I use.

I don't want the capacitive buttons to be replaced with on-screen ones, they just aren't the same!

My friend loves phones with the buttons on-screen, and I despise them...
