W10M and the anti OS brigade

I'm not disputing your main point. I'm not aware of the old Windows Mobile ever achieving 65% market share either.

However, THAT GRAPH MAKES MY EYES HURT!

Android runs on much more than just phones, so comparing to the iPhone seems useless. Microsoft and Blackberry are company names, but Symbian is an OS, and only one of Nokia's many mobile OS offerings, so shouldn't we be comparing to Nokia instead? Finally, the term "iPhone" refers to a smartphone brand name (like Lumia) and isn't similar to anything else on that graph.

Calling that an apples to oranges comparison is far too kind. Whoever made that graph was far too confused to be trusted with anything related to computer technology, consumer electronics, or statistics. The only place a graph like that should be on display is in a trash bin. Sorry...off topic... but had to be said...

Here's a far superior alternative:

2013 looks like the turn around year when WindowsPhone outpaced Bada, Symbian, and Blackberry. Plus, look at that clearly positive slope.

personally i like windows mobile 10, i have a lumia 950xl and i really like it too; with a mozo leather back cover it does have a classy premium look. i dont have any of the bugs and issues others have reported all the way from when i got it out of the box with the production build, to my current stint on the insider slow ring.

i actually like all the first party apps, the new UI conventions - although in a lot of ways win 7/8/8.1 had a unique design/ui paradigm which probably should have been explored further and iterated... and i miss the tight social networking integration; although i understand the move to win10 ui controls/conventions was also to make porting apps from other platforms (from the point of view of usability) easier- per one of microsoft's own videos.

i like edge, i like outlook, i like 'settings' (!), i like everything first party (although cortana can be a bit dumb at times).

the biggest problem is app availability and quality. every month some major player seems to drop their windows phone app, which was crap to begin with.

my wife and i have been windows mobile stalwarts (omnia 7, venue pro, htc 8x, lumia 930 (on launch day!), and for me, lumia 950xl.
my plan was to get an elite x3 and hand down the 950xl to the mrs, but last week she said, 'i'd like to try an android!' so i got her a nexus 6p... i've also had android devices but ceased using my nexus 5 in jan 2015 altogether. what i realised with my wifes new phone - android itself aside, is that it's all about the apps - no doubt. if we had identical third party apps on win10 (be it with MS account integration rather than google + connect) then we'd be more than happy. For example a phone supposedly for business professionals (windows mob 10) has the worst linkedin app of all time.

Android's apps have improved massively since jan 2015 for the better so i'm now considering a similar move. whereas windows mobile 10 market and mind share is falling - such a shame that MS let it fall from the heady heights of EU5 10% market share! Windows desktop is great though, will be getting a surface book soon.

Please include the "/s" at the end of statements like that. There are too many wacky but seriously held opinions floating around for me to reliably detect sarcasm these days. ;-)

I'm glad to see that the post made an impact. Moreover it's interesting to see that we are quoting the same source: Gartner (it's in the graph!) and your example ALSO refers to "Android" (That, as you said is not an device), and to iOS (that is very much an device-ecosystem).

I have to say that gartner is not the best source, they live and breed on insecurity and on market-share. For exampe your graph shows that "Andorid" has an "world-wide" "Smartphone" "sales" of ~30% in Q1 2012 whereas my "Global" "Smarphone" "market-share" is about 50%

So in Q1 2012 50% of the sales where 50% but only 30% of the Phones.

My post was an reaction to that BB has never had a market-share (Or sales share) of 60% - you did not manage to prove that.

^ It seems you completely missed the point. Let's just forget it since it was off topic to begin with.

I am perfectly happy with what Microsoft is doing now with W10.

The updates are coming fast and working well on my modest Lumia 735.

The main reason I switched to Windows phone was the poor battery life on Android where every Android developers seem to keep their programs running in the background draining battery!

No such problems with Windows 10 at the moment. A phone without battery is not a phone so Android phones just do not cut it for me at the moment.

As for Apple, it's overpriced and does not require further comment!
