W10M Insider Preview 14267 (Redstone branch - for devices released with W10M)

For Microsoft phones there are 2 main resets.
Soft reset = hold in the power and volume-down buttons at the same time for roughly 10 seconds. A soft reset doesn't delete anything from the device. It simply provides a means to resetting the device that's frozen.
Hard reset = Also known as factory reset. Reset your phone to the factory shipped state, erasing all settings, downloaded apps and data. This can be done by either going through the operating system menu or using combo "down volume/power/camera button"

I've noticed a lot of people saying volume-down plus power button... that just opens windows feedback for me. if i just hold the power button down by itself for 10-15 seconds, it'll restart for me. is that a setting somewhere? is that normal?

Hold vol down + power for 10 / 15 secs till screen goes black, despite feedback poppin up. Then release keys, and you'ill feel phone vibrate. That's the only lumia soft reset. Check official Lumia user manuals / blogs

And just to chime in... If you only momentarily press "Volume Down + Power", this actually is the hotkey for submitting a screenshot to Windows Feedback.

I have a L1520 but I've been following this thread to see how this new build is going, i had come across this thread on XDA to put 14267 on older Lumia phones, so i have been going thru comments to see if i should give it a try or not, but hey! its a preview build and for fast ring and as Gabe said fast ring builds are likely to have more bugs than any, so i did the tweaking and downloaded and installed on top of 10586.107, with NO issues at all. and guess what!, i have none of the issues that ppl with 950/XL are facing the is working as great as it was on .107 and the new features are awesome edge seems more improved, i got the long awaited 3G only feature back. there overall feel of the OS seems smoother than .107.

Does anyone else have success just holding power down though? I've never had to hold down the volume button for a reset though. I'm just wondering if its just me or if everyone out there is holding down an extra button they don't have to...

In order to do a soft-reset, you are required to press both buttons and hold, lol...

I have seen instances where apps freeze (or the OS freezes) and recovers after 10-15-20 seconds, that might be what you are experiencing... I've noticed a few other things on the OS that lead me to believe there's watchdog timers on certian events that kill processes and try to recover.

It could just be your timing :P

Serious security flaw after I upgraded to .1004.

My lock screen setting is that I must log in (iris scan or PIN) every time from lock screen. But now, I just press the power button I can see my home screen directly!

Windows 10 Mobile preview build 14267.1004

They released Windows 10 Mobile preview build 14267.1004 with some fixes.

It's available for Lumia 950, 950 XL, 650, 550, Xiaomi Mi4, and Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL only. Other users must wait for official W10M upgrade first to be able to receive new builds.

We'll add support for more devices once they have Windows 10 officially released to them.

And we'll probably get W10M officially when they release Lumia 2050 Pro with Windows 11 Mobile Premium.

Had the issue power button fails to wake the phone after 3 soft resets it seems to be working now but this update killed my SD card. Phone tells me to replace my SanDisk extreme card that's worked since I put it in my phone mid December. :/

Yes you're right. I meant power and volume-up button

I have noticed that my phone will occasionally freeze, buttons are unresponsive and it just restarts itself. It is also getting more heated up and the battery drains far quicker too. No firmware update for the 950XL here in Thailand either.

I had an issue with the SD card last night. Was watching a mkv vid file trying out different app. "Video x Player". Seems to play great. Smooth, almost no stutter. Then phone froze up. Got really hot. Forced shut down. Sd card became mostly unreadable. After many reboots, and reinserted the SD chip, some apps came back and i moved them to the internal mem. All photos I took were gone as well as almost all my music.

Good thing my photos were backed up ok n Onedrive. I have the music in various media, but adding them again is a real pain.

Gave MS some feedback and put in some choice words.

ATT lte/4g imei issues are solved in build .1004. What ever they did to add vvm seems to have the added affect of making lte stick even if set up after the initial setup. Had switched my sim card to my old phone since battery life on 950xl leaves something to be desired and after getting home. The lte stayed on the 950xl when usually if have it in my 1520 will go to lte but when Iswitch back it goes back to 4g. Well this time it stayed lte. Even after putting my second sim in and having it active as well. Usually even if it was setup to have lte during initial set up if u out In a second sim will switch it to 4g.
Now if Ican only get the device to not bug out when dual sims are active that would be nice. Keeps freezing.

Did a Hard Reset and my contacts are sync back only partially, any way to force a manual resync?

In the Peoples app, press on the 3 little dots on the bottom right, then settings. Press and hold on your Microsoft account and you will see the word Synchronise. Press it
.

Hope that helps

Done that many times, even got in touch with @LumiaHelp on twitter and they couldn't solve the issue as well.

I finally got the new FW (.16025.), so I decided to give another try to 'Redstone'. :)

Downloading now, I'll let you know how it goes...
