WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

In other news, I've been contacted by a French recruiter.

Not that I'm wanting go to back to engineering but if an opportunity arises for a short contact the extra cash wouldn't hurt.

The recruiter is in Paris but the company is large and has offices all over the world. She believes she can find me something. Of course having French would make life easier, especially in the area I live.

So there's a chance I may work again. Possibly in Bordeaux or in Paris.

The way things work here is on a day rate for contractors. It's a bit different than what I'm used to.

But I'm not waiting for that to happen. We're moving ahead with other things.

It's just good to have options.

Hmm interesting. I'm glad that you have options. That's a good way to look at it.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

This is how exciting my life is...

This weekend is the heritage open house all across Europe. Meaning free entry to places We were going to go to Bordeaux to check out some buildings but a neighbour is coming this afternoon to help us finish off the polytunnel. This part requires extra hands. It's taken some time to get here as the weather has been warm.

Tomorrow we've decided to go to an outdoor heritage museum. This museum is specific to the area we live in. Getting in for free will be nice.

I also started French classes yesterday. There was a break through the summer. I'm still not happy how they run things but can't complain about free I guess.

There's a chance we'll go to Bordeaux this week, just because.

It sounds like you have different stuff going on. Starting French classes sounds exciting though. I don't know much about the polytunnel but being able to get it done sounds like an accomplishment to me.

Free entry is nice! If you remember, let us know what you think of it.

Been looking at a Gear Sport/Gear S3. Not sure if I'll get one, just looking at it.

I have one. They're okay. I really like the idea of a smart watch but when it comes down to it I'm not really utilizing much of it other than glancing at notifications and using some of the features like heart rate etc.

Just can't get past the fact I have a smart phone with me at most times to really justify trying to do it on a smaller screened watch.

I use my smartwatches to offset the neuroticism of checking my phone constantly. I get to put that behavior to use with my work phone.

I was only considering a Gear Sport as a second watch to use. My Hu watch classic is on collector status and my Fossil Q is the same - special occasions. I wanted something else to do with my daily driver of the Huawei watch 2. Just exploring. No final decision yet made.

Just checked price of iPhone XS max in Germany, 512 GB model is 1650€ And it is the inly one available at launch. Apple sure knows how to get the most money from its customers.

If I was able to get a job in Bordeaux I can commute easily. We can keep living here and keep doing things on the farm. If I get a job in Paris or elsewhere then that puts things in hold farm wise but we should be able to get renovations going again regardless where we live.

To me it's a big IF so I'm not really relying on it. If we became desperate I have contacts where I can probably get a job in the Netherlands.

The only reason I'm considering this at all is that my wife's business is a bit slow currently.

We have other ideas of course, some may bear fruit but that's why I said having options is good.

Polytunnel didn't get finished unfortunately. Had a small mishap so it's on the back burner now. Nothing serious, missing parts and miscut of plastic.

French classes are a good thing because living rural you don't get to speak that often to other people (unless you're out a lot which we aren't). So it will help greatly. Getting old isn't helping with keeping things in my head either!

We've been to other open air museums before in other countries so it will be interesting to compare.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Bought some Crocs I was using for daily wear and they were murder on my knees. I was in denial until after back to back grueling weeks of being out in the community, my knees started yelling at me to do something.

I switched over to some running shoes all of last week and the discomfort dropped by 90%. I'll still wear those Crocs but in very limited use. Let's see how long these running shoes hold up as I'm notoriously tough on shoes.

My French sucks. Should get one of my friends to teach me as she was on Brittany teaching English some years ago.

Got to figure out what I can swap for free French lessons.

Glad that the change in shoes worked out for you. Hopefully they hold up long enough for you to not buy a pair so soon.

We'll see long term. May need a change of position eventually for my knees' sake.

My French is not that great either. The main issue is when people speak too fast. I have some understanding but it's like a new English speaker trying to follow a conversation with two English speakers.

It's interesting when you think about it. The English language is complicated. We just don't see it that way.

There's a lot of French words in English they're just pronounced differently.
