WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Though I don't wear headphones that often I do wonder about using the charging port as the headphones as well.

Currently on my XZ I have an issue where the USB plug doesn't stay in properly. It slips out in other words when moved. So totally useless for headphones. No idea how this has happened.

My wife's XZ1 compact sometimes doesn't acknowledge the USB cable to charge.

In truth I'm not overly impressed with UCB C if the charging ports are this fragile. Never had an issue with micro USB.

I do worry one day I won't be able to charge my phone. If that happens I'll never buy another Sony phone. Mobile phones are too much of a pain to fix and Sony phones are notorious for being difficult.

Ugh this sounds frustrating. How do you keep it in when charging? I'm just curious.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I haven't owned vinyle since the early 90s and haven't heard anything on vinyle other than a cafe that used to play vinyle back in the UK. I don't have much to do with it. I think I never had much of a love affair with it.

Valve amps apparently give you the best analogue sound output. It's supposedly softer, whatever that means. I'm no audiophile.

I believe people should enjoy their music how they wish.

I have a vinyl collection including a few I have purchased in the last 10 years. I have an original LP player, amp etc from 1976 - got it at a garage sale in pristine condition and it works great. I listen to it on the weekends with my kid.

On the other hand, we use Chromecast and stream from YouTube as well along with BT/dongle (depending on the car we are in) when are are driving around.

I just completed watching 7 deadly sins and it was great....Anyone who knows if there will be another season

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I enjoy the Spotify daily mixes. I've discovered some new jazz I like from those daily mixes.

I love the mixes including the custom ones it creates.
The Hindi music one it created for me is a favorite for everyone in the family!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I’m not into the streaming game either. I want to listen to what I want and when I want, not the same crappy music I hear on the radio every day. Listening to a “station” on iHeartRadio doesn’t work for me because I might be listening to a Euge Smoove track followed by John Bonham breaking my ribs with his double bass drums.

I too built my collection via Audio Galaxy and 3.5 kbps courtesy of Net Zero.

One thing that I have always splurged on is an internet connection.
I got my own line back in 1997 and in 2004 upgraded to a 15Mbps cable modem.
I had a friend who was working at Audio Highway in 1998 and boy oh boy did that help me create my audio collection or what!
Also I had a co-worker friend in the late 90s who I could give my list and in 2 days a CD would materialize with all the mp3 files on it :-)

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

For me it was the portability factor that moved my music from an early age. First tape cassettes then CD, then mp3, now streaming.

I still remember the first CD I ever heard. One of the first actually released to CD. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms.

I didn't own it and this is when CD players were over $1000. I still remember how the guy handled the CD but more importantly I remember the clarity. Was quite amazing.

Sure streaming isn't great but I have a decent speaker to listen to it. My Bose Soundlink Mini II is a great speaker. It's amazing the sound that comes out of it.

I have Dire Straits 0 Brothers in Arms CD!!
My first one was Def Leppard - The Vault that I purchased in 1996. It is currently playing in my car - Hysteria is my favorite track on that album.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

#AudioGalaxyalum.

Yup. Those were the days...audio Galaxy for the music and Kazaa for the movies. P2P at its finest.

Does anyone remember Limewire?

I snagged in way early on in the 90s. It is still on my Win2000 computer and boy it's stealth mode was the best. I never, ever, ever updated the OG version and it ran smooth till I parked that computer in the garage in 2007 or so where it still is :-)

I remember about three years ago telling my friend who recommended it to me that I still have it and he was amazed.

Things have come along a long way since then.
I now just get stuff on Amazon using the promotional credits I get for getting a package a couple of days late.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Salute to the 90s internet classics:

1) Net Zero
2) Netscape Naviagtor
3) AIM
4) Yahoo Messenger
5) Bolt (social media)
6) A/S/L in the chatrooms
7) Myspace
8)Napster
9)Audio Galaxy
10) Dialup connection noise
11) Internet + phone using the same line, where you cannot be online and on a landline phone call simultaneously
12) Private chatrooms to talk sex
13) Penpal sites (where girls were sadly bombarded by dudes wanting a foreign girlfriend)
14) Kazaa

Yup, those were the days.

I used Netscape Navigator, Yahoo Messenger, Audio Galaxy.
Always had a separate line (one luxury) and the dial up noise was something else.
I somehow managed to escape the other stuff you mentioned in your list.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Went to the flagship Apple store yesterday. I was reminded of how much less I like going in their stores. It's gotten too "corporate" in its feel.

I'll get the dongle on Friday.

I absolutely despise going to the fruit stand store in town.
Every time I HAVE to go in there, I come out in a worse mood than before.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Sorry to spam the thread. I lost my phone a few days ago and have been trying to see if I could recover it. Well last night I wiped it via Find my Phone and ordered a replacement.

Went from a Panda Pixel 2XL to a Black Pixel 2XL.
Pixel 3 series is still a bit overpriced. I had a few bills in the last 15 days that drained the account significantly so I decided to play it safe. Probably will get a Pixel 3 in March 2019.

At home the cable stays in ok, barely. In the car it tends to slip out all the time so very frustrating. I have to hold it in place with pressure.

To prove its not the cable, wife uses the same cable no issues.

Gotcha. That's so weird.

Nope, not spam at all. It's good to hear from you. I think you went for the best option at this time.

I agree, it is overpriced, but I'll admit that I'm kind of curious to try one (the smaller one, that is) but if I do, a phone has to give. lol

I think I heard the Hysteria Def Leppard album too much in the late 80s... I don't mind the songs but even when they come on the radio I groan a little.

I think most songs on that album was released as a single and got played to death.

The group really couldn't do much after that. They peaked and people got tired of them. In a way I feel sorry for them. They're still around and touring and releasing albums.

I used Limewire as well.

I remember Limewire. That was another good one too.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Speaking of phones, so I'm officially down to 2 now. The Essential Phone is sold and gone, the Note 4 is gone too. I gave away my 7, so that leaves me with the iPhone Xr and Galaxy A3. (The size difference is laughable but makes me a little sad when I use the A3.)

I can't shake the need to try the X so I'm waiting for the X to come in (the dumb decision was how I got the X) and I will return the Xr once it comes in. I can always get another Xr if I regret this decision.

I am definitely "notch" getting the Pixel 3XL.
I am most likely getting a Pixel 3 or staying put with the Pixel 2XL.

Oh I do remember everything on the Hysteria album getting played ad nauseum on MTV (which is how I got hooked onto music in India since there weren't any mainstream AM or FM stations playing any Western music back in those days).
