WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Children are easy to make and difficult to take care of. He's not going to have the nine months of labor experience, so pumping the brakes just a tad might be wise in his case there with the commentary.

Don't claim to know him; it's just that some people's expectation of fatherhood doesn't always match the reality. I'm sure the dads here can speak better on the subject.
Being a father and being a dad aren’t always the same. I only have a daughter, so I’m neither. I’m a daddy and that suits me just fine.

Can I state for the record of how much I dislike typing on these chic curved screens?

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

It has always been interesting riding the subways for all these years. The changes in hues of folks depending on what section of the train one gets on and off at is very, very interesting. Maybe I'll turn it into a post.

You should! I would be curious to read it. I'm not sure if it's like that here, as I don't use it on a daily basis to observe this.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So we're going to the Jersey Shore next week to get away for a few days. Nope, it won't be Seaside Heights, which got infamous for being the temporary home of Snooki and friends. Since the Jersey Shore is yuge, it's one of the smaller towns (Bellmar) that has a nice boardwalk and a few things to do. I'd like to go parasailing but I'm still on the fence. Not about the activity itself, but between shark sights off the shore and some random article of necrotizing fasciitis that's given me pause. We will see what happens.

We went the Rue route and are stay at a quaint B&B. If it were up to me, I'd have gone to A.C. to be cheaper since this is so last minute, but we do that all the time. Need to plan a full vacation - maybe next summer.

One of the things the gf will get to see is the train ride. We're going via good old NJ transit (shout out to the regulars who know my history with it). The coastal line has some great views in the summer and autumn, so I think she'll like that.

Nice, I hope that you two will find it relaxing and just what is needed for you.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Got my Summer Rewind playlist from Spotify and I was confused why there were some love songs on it but then I remembered how last summer ended. On one hand, I don't regret that experience at all but on the other, I can't get myself to do that again if my heart isn't in it.

I don't know how people have feelings and then try to date other people instantly, or maybe I just feel differently, as I'm not wired that way.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I forgot that The Hills reboot premiered. To watch or not to watch is the question. When The Hills came out, that was what a lot of people in my age range watched. I watched it to the end, and even watched The City just for Whitney Port because I really liked her.

I might give an episode a shot. At least there has only been one until tomorrow.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I think this week is my second shortest week all year so far with 2 days of work. I have a day off in between them but I chose that because I have set things for Monday. I'm looking forward to the short week and I'm hoping that I can finish my paper early this time.

Enjoy the time off and focus on nailing that paper.

Wow. I figured the former based on what I have heard and Serena's own experience with having her daughter, but I would have never guessed that this was a thing in death.
Yup. It's a thing. I even commented on that article too.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Something that came up a few times with people who have more experience than me was what's next. To that, I don't know really. Am I useful to be mentored if I don't know where I want to go or do really?

I'm wrestling if I would want to stay in academic or go federal government after I graduate. The government has a lot more opportunities and more spread. There is a certain agency that apparently loves graduates from my school. I do like academic but I don't know if I want to teach, which is required half of the time.

The partial data track I have been on with R and *light* metadata is interesting but I don't know if I want to do that all the time in a role (mainly for using R that is, metadata might be fine, depending on what I'm doing). Learning that I can do data, legal, or just be a subject area librarian at a institution along with other unique opportunities is great but it feels like nothing is standing out to me. Is it supposed to? Maybe I didn't do the course yet? Time's running out for me so if it is the latter, I don't know then.

My wife is a career coach so I have a small insight to situations like this. She's of course the better person to talk to but I can give a little bit of free advice.

First thing to do is to look at all the career paths you can possible take. Write down the positives, negatives and the indifferent. Be realistic on those points.

Next write down your own work values and how they compare to these career paths you want to take.

There's several ways you can approach this process. Using columns for the careers and rows for the values is probably the most effective.

This exercise will give you some clarity.

Often when we're overwhelmed by choice we often jump at things in stead of getting back to basics and having a good look at things. We all have goals but we should try to work in careers which feel the best fit for us and offer the compensation we desire. Sometimes it is just the paycheck you're after.

As most of us on here have learnt when opportunities knock you can either take it or wait for the next one. Not taking an opportunity does not mean another won't come along. Sometimes being ready for it is more important than the opportunity itself.

Some people don't like being by themselves. Some people process loss differently; some don't choose to process loss at all. There are other answers, of course.

It's always a mix of things, really.

I need to do something about this vibe for flawed and unpopular devices. Perhaps that's just my thing - looking at beauty and function in the most unusual of places.

Weather appears nice out today. We will see what we can get done on the clock.

We're a bit cooler here which is good. 24-28C is more comfortable than 36C. We had higher humidity than I thought to. Was around 80%

Planning to head out this weekend. Hopefully it stays nice. Not sure where we're heading yet.

We're in Paris next weekend (King Tut exhibition and wandering) so might head to somewhere else.

Too much choice!
