WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Ah so two of my favorite YouTubers took a quiz on what they should major in (one of them dropped out, and the other studied business and graduated a while ago) and both results were very interesting. They just took it out of curiosity.
I didn't even know that this was a thing so I took it. My result was health librarianship! I figured I was doing the right thing for myself...who would have known that this quiz would confirm it? I'm not opposed to health librarianship but I am so amused.

I took this for S&G and it told me "healthcare management". I do some version of this at work currently. Lol.

They did a ton of personality questions in there and ink blot testing.

Had a hard session today. Thinking about what I want and how it aligns with my parents acceptance is tough, at least when it comes to my personal choices that are big ones. In ways, I'm aware of what I want, but it was mentioned that if it comes in a slightly different packaging, will I be willing to accept? In this case, the thing was feeling like we have equal footing...

Also questioning if the goal with meeting someone is to enter into a relationship or allow for friendship with the possibility of growth and just going with the flow?

Just typing that made me sigh.

Wow that's so weird but really interesting that yours is in the arena of what you do!

Ah, that makes sense. I get how you'll know what they did here, based on your background. Everything seemed random to me, like the paintings. Some questions, yes I see how that connects but most of it was like...why?

This is based on some version of a standardized personality inventory test.
We see these truncated tests like these all over the internet all the time. But they're grounded in psychometrics, backed by theory.
MMPI and Myers Briggs are the two most famous psychometric instruments.

Personality types as a concept has strong links to classical psychodynamic or psychoanalytic theory.

Ain't nothing random about this at all.

What I don't like is the context of use. Psychometric instruments are used for mental treatment purposes. This test was used to suggest what kind of area of study to pursue, and linked to a school no less.

Speaking of, I randomly found out that 2 people I know also do therapy. It was cool to have a conversation about that.

Hm, that's really interesting. I can get where you are coming from. I didn't understand the point of the school being added here.

Because it's an ad. To get people to go to a school based on randomly clicking on a personality test and having the answers of said test be an aha moment that has someone pick THAT school listed.

Ain't nothing random about it. That's why there ain't no shame in the capitalism game.

Using a professional tool in an ad? Heh.

Lots of people go in the closet as it's such a personal experience. Not surprising there.

To be fair, you are in the field so you would know. I was just surprised to know that I know of people in my generation who I know of personally that go. I hear of others, just not anyone I knowingly interact with.

With how post modern society is and all the challenges that millennial face, the more in therapy, the better.

So... I sat the Note 10 in person. Not my thing. I saw the V50...big and thin feeling, like the G7. I. Saw the S10 5G. All screen, all phone...the GF would like it.

So I took this test. Interesting result. It said Computer Science. Something I originally wanted to do. It's a long story...

Here's the thing with this test.

Since all of us here are pretty much in careers and have a general good knowledge of ourselves it's likely this will come up with a relatively good result, so long as you're honest with the answers. However, I object to the idea that a teenager should only be given one choice at the end of a test like this. That's not how these things should work and hopefully no one is taking this too seriously.

My wife, as you know, is a career coach, though counselor is closer, just that no one likes the term counselor. She's got a Masters degree in Career Development and is trained in the use of various psychometric testing tools. She's personally not a huge fan of them but finds it a good starting point when someone is completely at a loss.

The test she uses produces many results with rankings attached to them. The test is pretty complex and is location based. The reason for that is because careers are different depending on the country you live in.

Though this test produced a relatively good result and I'm not saying it's a bad test I just don't think it's a very good either. All the results from tests like this should be taken with some skepticism.

To give an example of why these tests don't really work sometimes.

My wife did a test on a client recently who was trying to get out of graphic design and marketing. They were tired of the industry etc. So she wanted a test. My wife didn't think it would be useful but she did it any way.

So result? Graphic design and marketing was one of the top jobs. The others all had elements of this type of work.

Why did she get this result? Several factors. She had friends who kept telling her she was good at her job. It wasn't so much the work as the company she worked for. Lastly, most likely unsure of what else would appeal to her.

That's the problem with these tests. They're good but only for those who have no idea what they want to do with themselves and need a starting point.

Lastly, on this test I found the ink blots rather interesting by forcing you to choose what you should be seeing. I saw completely different things!

Ah well.

So day one with the watch.

I'm still sorting things out with it so my review here is very basic.

So far I'm quite happy. I like the weight. It's generally comfortable. Keeping in mind I haven't worn a watch in over a decade.

It's made me realise that I have to go get my eyes checked as I can barely read the small numbers... or the small dial at the bottom.

Overall I'm happy with the watch.

The smart part of the watch I'm still figuring out but I like what I have.

I didn't hold out much hope for the step counter and I was correct it's not going to be accurate at all.

I like the idea of the programmable buttons. I'm still deciding what I want on them. Music is there currently and I was playing around with the idea of picture taking but that would only be useful if my phone were on a tripod for night photos.

I have one set for the date and it's interesting how the date works on the watch. The hands swing to one of the 12 numbers and the small numbers that are around the outer ring (I can barely see those).

So currently I'm happy. Just unfortunate about the step counter.

Edit: Notifications are pretty decent as well. :)

I'm one of those that can't seem to keep watches, necklace, earphones or spectacles for a prolong length of time. Two years would be the max lifespan. Save the wedding ring, I'm a dead man if I lost that
I am surprised my Charge2 is still on my wrist. Its about 1½yrs now, early days.

I'll only wear the watch when I know there's little danger of it being damaged.

So yard work, demolition, construction, etc is out.

It will be mostly for work or going out somewhere. General daily use in other words.

I typically don't wear my wedding ring doing things that may damage it either so it's similar wear. :)

My two weeks trip to Penang has ended. Ate too much, as usual.
I made two stops to my hometown and visited my childhood house where I stayed until I was 9yrs old.
Strange how children memories and perspective of size is so different.
It used to feel really enormous, with endless corridors, walkways and rooms.

The house was built my grandfather in the mid 1930s. He was a Chinese immigrant who made his fortune in the the thriving tin mining industry. The mansion stood on two acres of land, survived the Japanese invasion of World War Two and the allied bombings.
It was sold in the early 2000s, and later listed as a heritage building. Which hindered the new owner from any commercial usag. It would cost a truckload to have it restored to its glory days, perhaps as B&B...
