WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

A bit of update on retirement... We took back the old house which my wife had let her sister stayed in for years. A bit of renovation in the bath & WC, water-proofing the foot of all the interior walls, followed by a fresh coat of paint. Hopefully it'll be done in a couple of weeks.
Then logistic headaches of moving our stuff across the state, some 600kilometres between the two cities. The house we want to move to is much smaller, so we had to reduce our 'stuff'. We gave away a third of things we no longer need or want to keep. Furniture, desktop PC, monitors, exercise bike, books & VHS tapes!!!! My treasured Aiwa Stereo set with double cassette deck & 5CD carousel..... basically downsizing and rid the bulky items..

The old pipes in the bath need to replaced with new ones... Look, "someone went crazy with the fog-machine"..

I can appreciate that but I have a list of people I prefer not to see and make me feel a bit ill if I do.

He tops the list.
I got 99 problems, but anyone causing me such a distressing physical reaction ain't one.

Next time out of respect for your health I won't post that since it causes you such distress.

It would appear Libra's team is off to a flying start. Well, these were the two scores I thought of for this Fall classic:

Astros in 6: Houston's starters dominate and the offense beats up on that Nats' pen that's weaker comparatively.

Or

Nats in 7: Nats across the series tax the Houston pen more because they keep wearing down the Astros starting pitchers.

Nats are 2-0 going back to DC. Hmmm...

I literally want to change the channel whenever I see him show up on TV. My wife insists on wanting to hear his hair brained comments but I'd prefer not to see his but hole mouth personally.

Yep, we are! It's been an interesting and stressful series. I was at the watch party last night (which was SO cool) and I was shocked to see just a few Astros fans.

As a brown person who has to historically deal with covert threats, it's refreshing (yet no less distressing) to be able keep an eye on the overt ones.

If they win game 3, the series is likely over. If the Astros win the next two, it'll be a good finish. Lots of baseball left to be played.

Truth. Too bad I wouldn't be able to join in the fun (on TV). Unless I finish this paper really quick and well, I'll have to follow the updates via At Bat.

Ok, so I spent some time with the Nokia 9. I do the setting up of things for my wife. She hates dealing with that kind of thing so I do it for her.

So this is a mini review of using the phone for a couple of hours.

The handset:

Since I've been using my X1 I've gotten used to the comfort of the slim design and the height. The Nokia 9 felt a bit small to me and wide but that's just my situation so here's the overall impression of the design.

The Nokia 9 is a very well built and very comfortable phone to handle. It's a slippery phone too, unsurprisingly. It's got a nice weight balance and the overall aesthetics are nice. The chrome ring around the phone is a bit retro and did throw me off a few times but it's not overly distracting. My wife did say it's a bit 'manly'. Not sure about that but it's an overall nice phone.

The screen to put it bluntly is stunning. I actually prefer it to my X1. The colours are rich and bright.

The wireless charging works well though the phone doesn't sit too flat on the pad and slides a bit. The quick charging pad we bought is wood so that may have been not a good choice.

The lack of a camera button is probably going to drive my wife a bit crazy and I have no idea why they didn't put one on here. The camera is the big draw on this thing.

Having to use a tool to put in the SIM card in 2019 is a bit ridiculous.

Lastly, the lack of SD card is a big miss on this phone in my opinion.

The software:

Having Android One on this phone is possibly a good thing and a bad thing. This basically means the phone has no personality to it outside whatever you give it and it's all Google. I'm not a huge fan of using Google Photos for an album so I'll have to find something that my wife will like. I know it will driver her crazy otherwise. However the phone zips about really well and has no lag at all and the fact it's an older processor would be hard for anyone to notice.

The rest:

Yes the fingerprint scanner is still hit and miss. It's probably equivalent to the fingerprint scanner on the X1.

I didn't use the camera that much but I can confirm what is said in reviews. The interface is ridiculously slow when switching between formats.

Photos take some time to process as well.

Overall it's a nice bit of kit but I do hope they're going to release more software updates to address some of these things with the camera and fingerprint scanner.

But then this is Nokia and the phone market typically doesn't care about older devices any more.

Yup, the screen impressed the hell out of me too enough to put up with that FPS as a daily driver. I'd still like to get one. Just haven't made the time or found the $ to do it. I'm curious about how your wife will feel when using that camera consistently.

I if they had gone 256GB internal it would be a bit more tolerable. That 128 is a miss.

I'm not sure how she's going to like it. Personally it would drive me a bit crazy taking a picture without a button (I do use the screen sometimes but prefer the button). The long wait for the picture to process is another thing entirely. She knows about that but I don't know if she's ready for it.

Yeah 256GB would have made this device a lot better but I still believe the SD card would have been a great idea, especially if they made it easy to remove, like a camera.

I guess we'll see what happens. I still think she would have liked the X5 or even the X1 for the way she uses her phone but maybe this will be OK.

I'm a bit surprised she didn't got with the X 5. Not because it's a Sony but the hardware combo sounds closer to what she uses.

On the other hand, my other half likes to do some curveball **** 75% of the time, so that can be understandable. The tech stuff is always funny in our relationship as I'll pick something and she will go "huh?" and when she starts to use it, she goes "OK" and never says another word.

Hope it works for her. Sounds like you want to keep everything pristine in the event you've got to do some exchange.

With the X5 she just wasn't keen on the tall thin thing.

As for keeping it pristine, she's not the best with her phones. She hasn't cracked a screen yet but she does drop her phone a lot. Or she used to. She's best not to do that with the Nokia 9.

In any case we got a decent deal on the Nokia 9. At worst it will be a back up phone and she'll pick up something else if it gets to that point.

If she doesn't like it in the next month my guess will be the purple X1 but I don't know for sure.

Stick around, I may have a deal on a Nokia 9 for you.

I was generally curious on your impressions so thank you for sharing it! It sounds like you'll find out how this works out for your wife.

Communication isn't always as easy as it seems. Funny how you can communicate well in an area and poorly in another.

Edit: All good.
